I stayed one night in anticipation of spending a few days at my daughter's home. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but wanted to be in this vicinity as my daughter works there. I read the reviews which were positive and thought, "It's only one night!" It was what I expected (per the reviews). Rooms are small, but clean. Felt like I was back in Paris! […] I actually slept with the windows open! It was that quiet. The concierge was most helpful. I was able to leave my luggage for the day as I explored the area. The best French restaurant is next door. Famous Ess-man Bagels and Dos Caminos are right around the block. It is 4 blocks from the United Nations. Great location. Pod51 is fine for a short stay in NYC. The room was tiny but adequate. Clean and modern with a helpful staff and very nice lounge on the roof and lobby. It's great for a short one or two night stay.

Liked the noon checkout time and the 2:00pm check-in. Great location, wonderful rooftop sitting area, a comfortable lobby restaurant with a nice outdoor deck and delicious & reasonably priced breakfast options. The rooms are very small but they have all the amenities you need...this hotel model may not be for everyone.

Room so small its actually cool, like staying in a bunk in a ship complete w metal sink. But this is one of the City's best bargains - clean, efficient and kinda fun. Will stay over and over. Clientele is high end, well dressed but this is about great value and cant beat the location!

I totally enjoyed the roof deck and garden area , while having a latte from the hotel cafe. It was a wonderful way to start and end the day of running around the city! Room was nice for sleeping. This stay, I had a private bathroom and next time, I might try the shared bathrooms.

Hotel rooms in NYC tend to be small - Pod rooms are smaller! But up-dated, well-designed, clean & comfortable. Pod 51 is in a great Mid-town location on the eastside with many good restaurants and the subway a couple of blocks away. It was quiet. The bathrooms down the hall were clean tile + marble, good fixtures. Only complaints: insufficient pillows […] and no in-room coffee maker! I don't need a hair-dryer; I do need a coffee machine! My twin bunk room was nothing more than I expected, and nothing less. There was no line for the shared WC or shower. For half the cost of fancier hotels, it certainly meet my needs.

This hotel is clean, comfortable and in a great location, within walking distance of Times Square! Would definitely stay here again on a return trip to New York. My only small complaint was that the WiFi signal was very bad in our room on the 4th floor. But apart from that, there was a great atmosphere in this hotel and a pretty cool vibe!

This was the second hotel I stayed in, on the way back via NY. I had experienced better value from my prior hotel in the region, which was only marginally more expensive but significantly better on all fronts. Pod 51 is comfortable and provides a place to sleep, but that's about it.

The room was smaller than I thought it would be, but we got accustomed to it. Friendly and helpful desk, concierge and snack bar staff. You must visit the rooftop garden deck at night for the splendid views. the location could not have been better. If you offer free WiFi its a good idea to actually have some signal strength in the rooms themselves. There was really no internet in this hotel at all. Must have disconnected five times within a period of an hour before I just gave up. Hallway noise goes right into your room. Yes, you have to be comfortable in a small space and sharing a bathroom (rooms do have sinks). There is a small desk to get work done and you can go downstairs and work on one of the dining tables or sit on the couch. Location is perfect for the subway or to grab a cab. The room is teeny and the bed is hard, but for the price relative to other New York hotels, it is worth it. I had a room with a shared bathroom, which was clean and fine. Overall it was a good place for the cost in the city. However the rooms really are extremely small and the beds well I have slept on better. The room is very efficient (small) but did have everything required. Location was key - 2 blocks from subway. All areas of hotel were clean, well maintained but hallway lighting on floor was dim.

Overall, pretty good. We forgot to tip the cleaning service on a day-to-day basis on a 5-day stay, so on day 4, the cleaning service decided not to clean our room. Partially our fault, but maybe this point should be made more explicit for european.asian travelers who are not used to tipping for room cleaning.

Stayed alone over the weekend after a tough week long course nearby to see some friends. Even though it was shared bathrooms, it was never a problem and all was very clean. Staff were very nice and the area was very good - central and felt very safe. Would totally recommend it!

The hotel receptionist didn't come off friendly at all. She made no mention that there are shared baths and toilets either. I had to hear it through a customer who was outraged that she wasn't getting a private bath. Me and my boyfriend overlooked the circumstance and enjoyed the art and ambiance of the hotel itself. We booked a room through Hotels.com […] with a private bath. The hotel room was nice, very small, but cozy. But it was hard to sleep steady as all the noise from the busy streets and hotel floor itself was quite noisy. Too expensive being we weren't fully satisfied there to begin with. It was a wonderful mix of young people, business people and travelers who wanted to stay in the city for an affordable price. My room was perfect, big enough for me but no wasted space on that stupid table they put in the corner of most hotel rooms that you never use. The rooftop garden offered a wonderful view out over Manhattan and the outdoor dining […] was private and coxy. The food was great, I had coffee and a bagel both good values and tasty. Thursday night when I came in there was a basket of the bakery from the day that had a sign on it saying help yourself, a nice little treat for those travelers who might not be able to afford much food in the city. My title says it all - considering it's location and price, the hotel was a great value for NYC (when most NYC hotels are horrible value and far too much money.) There are plenty of bars and restaurants within a couple of blocks, a supermarket right around the corner, and you're just a couple of blocks from the subway. Times Square is a 10 to 15 minute […] walk; Rockefeller Center even closer. We had shared bathrooms and they were always clean and available. The staff were extra helpful. This hotel served a purpose, in that it was a place to sleep and shower. However, it was not as nice as the site made it look. I'm pretty sure that the pictures on the site were not taken at our hotel. The rooftop patio is not as nice as it looks. The neighborhood is approaching a sketchy area. The location was not as close to sites and subways as the […] site suggests. I was up half of the night from people on the street yelling, laughing, etc, and the hotel staff didn't seem to be aware enough to go outside and tell the people to move away from their hotel front. I suggest asking for a room that faces the back, not the street. The shared bathrooms were not really an issue. If you're looking for a cheap option for a place to sleep and shower, this is okay. But looking back, I would have rather stayed further from the city, had a normal hotel, for even less expensive, and just taken the subway into the city. Pod 51 is conveniently located, clean and functional. However, almost impossible to sleep in because there is no sound proofing. We could hear conversations in rooms down the hall, let alone rooms next to us. And because people share bathrooms, there is always hallway traffic and doors slamming. I enjoyed my stay. Lot's of local places to eat. Easy transportation to get on the subway. Very safe area I stayed alone and as a female the safety issue was important. I would definitely go back!
