"Turtle Beach Resort Barbados. Nice, but just OK."
On arrival at 1130pm, we were given our rooms, but nothing to eat after a long day of travel on a severely reduced quality flight on AA. We had to take a $40 taxi ten minutes away for a late night meal. That was a rip right away. The owner of Pun de Grill reopened for us and made us dinner at midnight. Very nice of him. The hotel was a 3star hotel with […] a breakfast buffet each morning that was decent, but not extravagant. Lunch was an outdoor buffet, just OK. And dinner was a sit down menu that was OK. After dinner, this place was a dead zone. We went to bed at 1030 each night. Nothing going on there. The Gap is a 10 minute walk away, and everyone walks there. No need for a taxi. There are restaurants there, but mostly bars, and we at at the Harlequin's. Six of us at an outdoor place was $250. As much as one of the best steak places in Dallas. Whoa. We went to the Fish Fry on Fridays at Oiston, a little town ten minutes away. Ten bucks for one of the best fresh grilled fish meals ever. Along with 500 hundred of my closest Barbadian/European friends. Highly recommended. Took a taxi tour of the island one day for six hours. He charged us $60/hr. Others were able to get the same thing for $40/hr. But this driver was very nice, and highly recommended . Edward Franklin. We did the Jammin' Cats sunset dinner catamaran cruise and it was very nice. Try to book when you think it will be clear that night as the clouds cover up the sunset and stars. This is the only true dinner sunset catamaran cruise. The others head back in when the sun goes down. This is stays out for at least another hour after sunset. And the price is no more than the others. Also, we went to Crane Beach the last day there. This is a "Top Beaches of the World" type place. It is a secluded, very nice beach on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island associated with the upscale Crane Beach Resort. "If only the staff were actually nice to their guests"
The hotel is beautiful! The grounds are beautiful! The location is central and great- but the staff at the hotel needs a lot of improvement! Every guest we spoke to, said they would much rather avoid them than dare ask for a single thing. The island people that we met were wonderful, but the staff and service personnel at TBR have the most awful attitudes […] toward their guests. From the very moment we arrived we felt like 3rd class citizens. Our room wasn't ready and then when we were finally escorted to it, there were 3 twin beds instead of one king (mind you this was our HONEYMOON!) This is all after we had confirmed the room set up during check in. When we asked for one large bed, the porter acted as if we were asking for his first born child. He stuck up his nose and stormed out. Then we discovered that the adjoining door was unlocked and you could walk freely between our room and the room next to us. It took them more than three hours to lock the door!!! And upon leaving the housekeeper slammed our front door. Needless to say when we discovered that the drapes were broken and wouldn't pull closed we decided to just live with it. For the first three days we didn't even let them come in to clean the room for fear of what might happen. The servers are rude. The bartenders are rude. The concierge consistently gives you the wrong times for things so you end up wasting hours waiting for a shuttle that isn't due for another hour or so. "Great resort for couples and families with children"
The food was plentiful and good tasting. The staff was very friendly and worked hard to please us. Only negative was the lack of a completely distinct smoking area near the dining/entertainment sectionl
