Our room was so small we tripped over our open suitcases. Only one bedside stand and that was so rickety items fell over. Private Bathroom in the hall was several doors down and so tiny you couldn't pick up dropped soap in the shower. Neighborhood was industrial and run down. About a mile from real downtown Portland, but there are a few restaurants right on the same block. Nice rooms -- we had a separate but private bathroom down the hall. Place was very clean, it's a quirky building, narrow maze like hallways, small rooms. My room did not have an attached bathroom, it was in the hallway (but only for my room). Parking lot is tiny and you might have to park next door in their overflow parking at the Chinese restaurant. Everything was pretty much fine until I got back to my room a little […] after midnight only to then find that the heater in the room did not work. It was chilly that night and I really needed that heater, and there weren't enough blankets to keep me warm. I was tired by then and didn't feel like going to the desk to complain and possibly have to change rooms so I just dealt with it. We stayed at The Inn at St. John for our first anniversary and absolutely loved it. The hotel was cute and comfortable, the rooms were awesome, we loved the private hall baths, and the staff were fantastic. The facility and staff were first rate. I would stay there again. Or room had the restroom in the hall which wasn't an issue. My understanding is that most rooms have them inside but we got a great deal and didn't mind.
