Huis 't Schaep - Bruges, Belgia

My husband and I were only in Bruges for one night and one day, and we selected a B&B in order to get a more "personal" experience and learn a little... more about the city itself. Huis t'Schaep did not disappoint. We arrived late in the evening, and the owner went out of his way to get us settled in quickly and comfortably, as well as to help us orient ourselves and find a good restaurant with only limited time before the area's eateries shut down (Bruges is pretty quiet past 10 pm). The next day, following a wonderful breakfast, he sat down with us and a map and recommended some great restaurants and chocolate shops to try, as well as his favorite sights to see in the area, knowing that we had little time and wanted to get the most out of our stay. He really went out of his way to accommodate us and made it very easy for us to hop back on the train in the evening to head to our next stop. He gave us a history of Bruges itself and an in-depth tour of the house, which was owned by a stained-glass and tile maker and is full of stunning details and the most beautiful fireplaces we had ever seen. The room itself was a lovely blend of hundreds-of-years-old architectural details and antiques with full modern conveniences such as electronic access, huge jetted tiled shower, and comfortable temperature. Breakfast was huge and cooked to order with the owner giving us several options and making sure that everyone had as much as they wanted to eat. It included a variety of breads and cheeses, eggs cooked in several ways, a beautiful fresh fruit salad, fresh orange juice, and yogurt prepared with fresh fruits and seasonings. The house is perfectly located about ten minutes by foot from the train station and maybe ten minutes by foot from the market square, close to everything in central Bruges. Bruges itself feels like one of the safest cities we have ever visited, and even walking alone at midnight in the town we felt very comfortable. Overall this was an amazing stay and we wis
