Hotel Saint Christophe - Aix-en-Provence, Prancis

My original standard room was dark and looked onto a construction site. After complaint, I was moved to a wonderful, recently refurbished room. My travel companion had a standard, very nice older room on the other side of the hotel. Would give the hotel higher overall rating once the large construction project next door is completed.

Hotel Christophe is a charming Art Deco style hotel and very conviently located in central Aix en Provence, close to the old city and the Tourism Office. The food at the restaurant was lovely and very good value for money eg. 2 courses for less than 12 euros. Hotel St Christophe was fine, and a couple of the staff were very helpful. My room 224 had what would have been a pleasant little terrace, but in May 2013 there was a very noisy construction site next door which made it impossible to open the doors.

The room was small and old (in need of remodel). The bed was the worst on our trip and hurt our backs. (We like firm mattresses, but this one was worn out.) Worst of all, the staff couldn't care less about us--all of them. I simply wanted directions to the nearest supermarket and a suggestion for dinner and they were very rude. Barely looking up to […] confirm the direction I was pointing, they sent us down the wrong street. Every time I would ask for info about the town (e.g. when is the next farmers market, etc.), they would barely answer. The location is good, but Aix is not the same town it used to be--not as fun, lacking character. I would not come back to this hotel or to Aix if I had to do over again. Go to Annecy instead! Pleasantly surprised by the ideal location of the hotel, private patio and excellent hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, the nearby construction on the public sidewalks and roads was distracting. Disappointed that the cleaning personnel entered our room to clean when we clearly displayed the do not disturb door hanger upon leaving the room the first morning. […] The beds are hard, but if you are exhausted from walking all day, I suppose you won't care. We received a very nice welcome and a free upgrade to a room with interior terrace and balcony. There were roadworks taking place, but caused us no disturbance. There is an excellent bar and restaurant attached. A superbly central location with very reasonable overnight parking rates at a public car park just across the road.

Convenient, but if your room is on the street side be prepared for bright lights shining into the room and the high-pitched screech of bus brakes. The front desk is not helpful as other places I have stayed. I asked for assistance finding the bus times to the airport and was told to contact the tourism office which was not possible given the time and […] date. Aix is so fantastic, you can do better. Good but room had no place for clothes other than closet. There were no chest of drawers to put shirts, socks, etc. The rooom was extremely small and hardly enough room to get around the bed. The old fashioned key which one had to turn into the front desk was inconvenient. Confusion over dates of reservation for addition day. Dining room was OK.

If you go there from Aix TGV, it will take you quite a while by bus and another walking for 15 min. I had to take a heavy carrier.. so i dont want to recommend this hotel if you need to take TGV. Room condition was ok but staff was not helpful.

The hotel was in a great location, the breakfast buffet was good and worth the 12eu. The pillows were awful, so uncomfortable, the housekeeping staff were nice and tried to get us better ones, but to no avail. Our stay and experience at the Hotel Saint Christophe was great! The hotel is in the perfect location-right in the middle of the town. We were within walking distance to more attractions than we had time to see. Our visit to Aix en Provence was the favorite part of our European vacation that included stays in Monte Carlo, Florence and Venice. We booked at the low Internet rate and the room was somewhat small but comfy enough and the bathroom upgraded. Had 2 meals in the restaurant and it was decent. The front dek staff were efficient and nice. Exceptionally convenient and an easy walk to the bus or train station. Excellent in its price range, a minute from Cours Mirabeau. Recommend.

This hotel is ideally situated for exploring Aix-en-Provence, close to the main avenue, the Cours Mirabeau. It is within easy walking distance of the bus station, served by the Marseille Airport bus and buses to nearby towns such as Avignon. We stayed here after a journey down from the UK on the TGV and before picking up a car hire the next day: liked the hotel - unpretentious, friendly and reasonably priced. It was only 5 minutes walk from the drop off for the shuttle from the TGV station which is a few miles outside Aix. Our accomodation was excellent and the hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is the best location for walking to all the sights and close to the helpful Tourist Information Center. If you are arriving in Aix en Provence by train, look for the shuttle bus that takes you a couple blocks from the hotel - costs under 10 euros each. […] When we arrived in Aix we were tired and grabbed a cab which cost 35 euros! The value proposition here is great. This is a modest, comfortable hotel (very good beds) in a terrific location. Staff is helpful, it has a lively brasserie, and there isn't a better location in Aix. Rooms are small, but I'm not in Aix to hang out in my room.

I booked in January for a stay in July (special rates during Expedia sale). I paid for a single room with a shower, but was delighted to be allocated a small double room with a bath. Hotel was comfortable, bed was good, dinner was great. Had the slowest internet I have encountered since dial-up and only available for one logon so that was a big disadvantage to us who are travelling in a different hemisphere and need to keep in touch with family by email. Will not return for that reason only. All else was good.
