Our room was spacious. Our view was lovely. The rest of the property leaves a little to be desired; just a little rough around the edges. New carpet, fresh updates, firmer beds and I think this will be a gem of a place.

Fire alarm went off both nights in the middle of the night and there was not a fire so it was malfunctioning. Room was not clean - found garbage from last guest. Hotel needs to be upgraded. Need to invest in better pillows. Hot tub was nice. Close to downtown so that was good. Fun to hear seagulls in the morning. Staff was nice.

People were nice, pool and hot tub were great. Location was super pretty. Not a world class stay with ultra fancy amenities, but for the money, it's like a 9 out of 10.

Clean room, great staff. Room service wasn’t done daily you had to call a number for service. Ran out of toilet paper night #1 as it only had 1/4 roll in it. Continental Breakfast was great and plenty of options. Would definitely stay here again.

6/10 Good

This is an older, 2 floor hotel with dated furnishings and no elevator. Our room was clean and comfortable with old style bedspread and furnishings. The security latch on our room door was broken (if had been forced open at some point). The breakfast in the morning was disappointing as coffee was not available earlier than 7:00. The breakfast consisted of plastic bins of bagels and cereals and peanut butter and cream cheese. We did not use the indoor pool. The most disappointing part of our stay is when the hotel fire alarm went off repeatedly in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. It took us hours to get back to sleep and ruined our stay. We travel a lot and have stayed in 100s of hotels and this is the very first time this has ever happened to us.

Even though this hotel could use some cosmetic updating, let’s be real people…it is the only hotel in downtown Grand Marais with a pool! It even has a hot tub too! My kids love to swim and so this was a great choice for us and non-negotiable for the kids. Also, you can get 2 rooms (like we did) for the price of one room at the more expensive hotels around it (which don’t have a pool). Beds were comfortable, rooms were clean, and staff were friendly. Breakfast is just cereal, bagels with cream cheese, pancakes, yogurt, fruit cups, and microwaveable oatmeal packs. I am GF so I packed my own food and that worked out fine for me. Kids were fine with breakfast. Rooms have refrigerators, but I wish they had microwaves in the rooms instead of just the lobby. Hot tub felt good on sore muscles after long days of hiking. If you are expecting a hotel that is modern and updated, without its quirks, this is not for you. However, if you are looking for something comfortable, affordable, easily walkable, and fun for the family this is a great choice.
