The College Club of Boston

I traveled on business, and stayed at The College Club of Boston the beginning of November. Pros: the location was quite lovely, the facility was well cared for. Cons: (1) When they state that the breakfast is continental, think minimal. And don't count on it before 7:30 am. (2) I stayed in a single, as it was the only option available when I booked. I was on the 4th floor, and as such, there was no other room that I was supposed to be sharing the hallway bathroom with, yet multiple times a day I would start walking down the hallway to use the facilities, to note that someone was in there. (3) The Club is located in a residential neighborhood, so the lighting is not the greatest - which caused some concern when trying to indicate the location to a driver upon being dropped off. If I was traveling in Boston again, I would only consider staying here IF I could get a double, and packed breakfast in for myself accordingly.

The College Club of Boston is a unique place to stay. It is close to everything you want to see! The rooms are quaint and clean, however the beds are a bit to firm for our liking. It was quiet and the continental breakfast and afternoon cookies were a treat!

Lovely old building in a great location in Back Bay. The room was comfortable and clean. Coffee and tea are available 24/7 and in the afternoon, fresh cookies are available which is a nice touch. The negatives for us were that although breakfast is included, they don’t start serving until 7:30 which was too late for us since we were attending a conference which was a 15- 20 minute walk and started promptly at 8. The other piece that was inconvenient was that the only after hour luggage storage was an unsecured coat closet. We had to check out before our conference and had to take our luggage with us since we did not feel safe about leaving it out. For a leisure trip this would be a perfect place but being on business made it a little less than ideal.

The hotel is very tired, our room was very dark and the furniture looked like it had come from a jumble sale. The bathroom was small and you couldn’t have had a bath in the tiny bath that was there. The wardrobe had two foldaway beds in it and they blocked the fire escape! The bed was comfy but there wasn’t a tv or fridge and you had to go down three floors to go to the ice machine. There was no coffee machine in the room and, again, you could go down four floors to get coffee or tea when you liked, but we had taken our own kettle and used the cups from downstairs. The description of the room said it had air conditioning but it only was a fan. I really didn’t like the room and the space behind the radiator in the bathroom was disgusting.I can’t comment on breakfast as we didn’t have it. The only cups in the room were plastic. The cost of the room was reasonable for that part of Boston, which was near the Gardens and Boston Common. Having said all the above the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Host was very kind letting us enjoy breakfast while waiting for a room. Liked that we could store luggage and they were very accommodating letting us check in early since the room happened to be ready early. Very well kept and clean for being so old and antique. No TV (which did not bother us) but very large room with plenty of storage. Unique and quaint and great location! Will stay again!
