Hotel says non-smoking on Hotels.com (like most hotels) and so my husband not only went outside but across the street to smoke. The posted rules said no smoking within 20 feet of the premises so he was very respectful of that.
Then, as we were getting ready to leave to celebrate our anniversary, the host told us that it was 100% no smoking and smokers shouldn’t even stay here and offered half our money back. She said that the website says 100% no smoking although we booked through hotels.com, not the website. And even if we had booked through the website, to us 100% no smoking means 100% no smoking on the property which was respected by my husband.
We declined her offer for a partial refund, reassured her that he wouldn’t smoke on the property, and went out for the evening.
Upon returning, my husband was very uncomfortable for the rest of the night and only went out once to smoke in the morning before leaving.
This interaction led to an awkward experience and we never did feel comfortable there.
Also, the “private” bathroom for our room was exclusively for our use but was across a shared hallway so we had to get dressed every time we needed to use the bathroom at night.
