Cerro Alegre's arty Cerro Concepcion neighbourhood is loved for its port and bars, and visitors often enjoy its varied attractions, including Casa Mirador de Lukas and Mirador Paseo Gervasoni.
You might want to get your camera out and head to Plaza Sotomayor – just one of the landmarks located 1.1 mi (1.8 km) from central Valparaiso. Why not take a stroll along the port and watch the sunset while you're here?
You can spend an afternoon browsing the exhibits at Open Air Museum of Valparaiso during your trip to Valparaiso. Wander the waterfront in this culturally rich area.
Ride colourful funiculars up steep hills for sweeping views of the Pacific and vibrant street art. Explore winding cobblestone streets lined with bohemian cafes, boutiques, and the former home of poet Pablo Neruda.
Be prepared to climb some stairs, so avoid too many glasses of Carmenere if you have to navigate them at night. The closer you get to the harbor, the rougher around the edges it becomes. I did not find it at all dangerous but could be at night.

If you enjoy Street Art then I'd recommend a tour eg Gafreeti. There is seemingly no building untouched in the city! Some areas feel very edgy and the advice around not walking around after dark outside of the touristy areas is best heeded.

Valparaiso is one of the most unique cities in the world with its art, architecture, shops, steep roads, love for stray dogs and overall vibe. Definitely worth visiting but when you wear comfy sneakers because you will walk a lot

The city is one giant artsy stair master - get ready to work those legs and enjoy every wall you walk by!

Set on a series of hills Valparaiso is like out of a dream. It has a terrific bohemian vibe and a youthful, romantic energy. However, besides the wonderful art there's lots of trashy graffiti, urine smell in places and it's unsafe at night.

A walking tour will provide insights that you might otherwise miss. Some of the street art is quite impressive.

Very interesting place and it's a very hard walk all around since it's on a big hill or small mountain Someplace if you fall of the sidewalk it's a 6 feet (2 meters) drop to the road Very different place

I'd do a five for the city except from the Argentine border to the Uber driver who brought me from the station I kept being told how dangerous this place (Santiago, then Valparaiso) is!

"Lovely stay at a unique hotel. The staff was fantastic and very helpful.
The restaurant had a variety of options and the food and drinks were delicious.
The view of Valparaiso from the room and restaurant was great."
"We absolutely loved our stay at this unique and beautiful hotel. The staff was so kind and helpful and gave us great recommendations for walking routes to see nearby street art and a delicious restaurant. No two rooms are a like - all with different touches. Our room was huge and full of such interesting decorations and art on the walls. We had a private outdoor terrace with an incredible view of the city and the sea. Our bed was very comfortable and we had a lot of room to spread out. Even binoculars were by the sliding glass door so we could peer down into the. It’s below to see even more of the street art. We had an entire kitchen and two couches - even a bbq out on the terrace and enough room to easily entertain if we had local friends. Also love the story of the hotel which they include in your room along with board games and books. Everywhere you look throughout the hotel there are recycled and upcycled materials. Breakfast was included and we had the option of breakfast on the rooftop deck or in our room and we ordered through WhatsApp and were delivered hot breakfast to our room! We will definitely be back!"
"Everything was great, well decorated, super clean and comfortable.
I just didn't like much the surrands. Had to park the car a few blocks away and I didn't feel safe to walk there in the evening."
"This is a gorgeous property in the Cerro Alegre, walkable to everything. The staff was professional and helpful - and spoke English, which was much appreciated as we arrived after traveling for 24 hours! The breakfast was terrific, the room large and well-appointed. Highly recommend!"
"Very charming hotel with a historic feel to it and an excellent location in Cerro Alegre right by the Victoria funicular on a pedestrian only strip (car drop off 2 minutes walk on Montt and Dimalow). The area can get noisy on Saturday night but is safe and the views from the hotel are breathtaking and worth the trip. The room was spacious, beautiful and clean, the bed very comfortable. The bathroom equipment and towels showed their age but everything was clean and functional (wait a minute or so after cold nights for the hot water to flow). Breakfast was excellent, the staff caring and attentive; gave the hotel a cozy and homey feel. Very memorable stay in the best way possible, highly recommended. "
"Very nice although brief stay. We were able to check in early and were allowed to stay a little later too. Front desk was very nice and helpful. Room was spacious and clean with great views of ocean and hilly town. We used UBER a lot and that worked out great. Area around hotel loaded with restaurants and shops that were well within walking distance."
