Our experience about Sunlight Hotel, Istanbul.
This hotel offers decent accommodations at a stone through of many major tourist attractions. The staff ranges from very friendly to OK, depending. Located in the European Section and with a panoramic terrace over the area. Caveat: be sure to mention "Sunlight" to avoid concussions with similar hotels.

2/10 Poor

Not a quite room, need more sound proof!
I am staying in a room 101, for 3nights, you can hear noise from receptionist: phone ringing, conversation, moving chair, glass. Or plates, etc! That is only one of the downsize, noise! But not from traffic, is from the hotel reception and restaurant! To be frank, others is super: location, cleanliness, staff, value of money and facilities!

Comfortable hotel near historical sites
Clean, comfortable hotel situated very close to the important historical sites of Sultanahmet area. It is also walking distance from the Grand Bazaar. There is a lift to all floors. Bathroom had clean towels & the room had a TV & fridge. Buffet breakfast was quite good.

My first Istanbul hotel
I wanted to stay there because I was there in October, it was easy to get there by tram and it was close to the center. But I knew the staff was friendly, even though the cleanliness was quite poor.

A hotel near the biggest sights
The hotel was clean and quite OK for the price. It was better than what we expected. The hotel is situated in a downhill so that you have to climb up cobblestone streets to get to the main street in the old city . But it was close to the sights like Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque and a tram station which was great. The breakfast was OK, nothing fancy. The rooms were kept clean and the reception was open 24/7. But the walls were like paper and you could here every single word said in the neighbor room. There were some other bad things as well, but if you go to Istanbul and want a cheap hotel for a few days (we stayed for 5 nights and that was the max.) this hotel isn't too bad. Except it's a bad choice for allergic and asthmatic people (I found it hard to breath in the mornings).

Cheap hotel
It was not a bad hotel comparing with its price. There was a free open buffet breakfast, which was good. The room was really small than I was expecting. The bed was kind of twin bed.

Hotel in Istanbul
This hotel is off the beaten path, down a rather steep hill and less convenient than comparable hotels. The room was fairly large and comfortable. We appreciated the lift. . The people at the desk were not particularly helpful or responsive, with a few exceptions. The breakfast was mediocre at best.....bread, jam, and coffee along with some cut tomatoes and cucumbers; the boiled eggs were spoiled. We were very unhappy at check out. Our plane left late, so we went for a morning walk, and returned to find the maid was cleaning our room, had put a few of our things into our suitcases, had turned off the a/c, and the bathroom was not available to us. Since we returned a good hour before the official checkout time, we found this to be quite disconcerting if not rude!

old and small, but good location
old room, in-wall air conditioner, twin bed. shower didn't have any walls, only curtain going to floor, so floor would be soaked after shower. wireless available, but only in lobby. i'd say this was a 2.5 star hotel. i'd stay there again because it was so cheap and a good location. decent breakfast too. but i wouldn't invite any girls back to my room at this place ;o)

This hotel is in the wrong location, it is to far from all seenaries, encluding high streets. steep
The hotel is far from all senaries and any want to go there are steep hills, not one but 2 or three almost 75 degree climb. the hotel is quite depressing, especially its entrance and loby and its dining room at the basement. the breakfast was very very basic and boaring, thank God we had hard boild egges, otherwise it would be better to eat outside. Rooms are old furnitures and very old carpet (moket), however the staff understand and speek little English, but you have to speak slowly for them, but they were friendly. I do not want to go there again. a restaurant next door told me 'our business is down beause of this Sunny hotel no gests' the hotel had occupancy when I was there no more than say 5 rooms occupied.

Sunlight? Not really.
I don't recommend staying here. Ironically the room had very little sunlight. The bathroom was moldy and paint chips falling from ceiling. As far as the service, I wouldn't know. I was so disappionted I left after one night and found a much more pleasant place.

Ideal for Istanbul
A great budget hotel in the heart of the city. I found it was ideally located for sightseeing, being only a 5-10min walk from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and many more of the attractions. The hotel room was serviced daily complete with a towel change (better service than I've received in other cities!) and the staff were friendly and courteous. Breakfast was exactly as expected from the various city guide books I'd read, including juice, tea, coffee, bread, cheese, tomato, cucumber, preserves and yoghurt. Nearby restaurants served good food, were friendly and popular. There are many places to eat within a 10 min walk, but the more 'touristy' the location, the higher the price - remember, this is the largest city in Turkey and some of the prices reflected this at times. Would I go back to Istanbul? Definitely, 5 days just wasn't enough to see everything. Would I stay at this hotel again? Absolutely, it was perfectly placed, and nothing more or less than needed for a city break.

Sunlight Istanbul -- Steep hill, not steep prices
Located a couple of blocks from the Çemberlitaş tram stop in Istanbul's touristy Sultanahmet district, the Sunlight is convenient except for a rather steep hill which is more an annoyance than an impediment if you're hauling heavy luggage. Rooms are clean but basic. Friendly staff, a/c. Make sure you have a map, as the street names are rarely posted. The hotel seems to be located right next to a mosque, so prepare to hear the call to prayer at sunrise! Overall, decent value for price.

Good location, but old
Good location. The hotel has become outdated physically - the sanitary technician old, bulbs in number burn not all. But it is located near to all basic tourist places of Istanbul. It is necessary to make renovation or to reduce the price.

Sunlight Hotel in Istanbul
The price and location were just right. The hotel room was modest, but clean and comfortable. Some people behind the main desk had trouble with English. We loved Istanbul and if we go back, the Sunlight would be our first option.
