Conventional
Conventional hotel, nice but nothing more. If you are looking for somewhat tipical it isn't the right place; ok if you want to stay in an hotel chain. Quite clean, kind staff. The location is really central and easy to find.

Poor, even for travel lodge.
If I'd paid a third of what I paid I would still have been paying too much. There must have been something big on in town so rooms were at a premium. If they are going to be extortionist about their room charges under these circumstances then one would assume the room would be clean at the very least. But no. Dirty marks on the bedding, unvacuumed carpet, mouldy shower. Not to mention the bedside tables were about three feet away from the bed on either side, air conditioning was noisy, tv remote had no batteries, pillows were like flattened pancakes, staff seemed like they were having a little party behind the desk - no greeting returning to the hotel that evening. Poor even for travel lodge.

Less than expected.
Being from the US I expect much more from a hotel. The mattress was bumpy and uncomfortable. The room was small. There was only a tiny bar of soap for guests to use in the bathroom. I had to use it for my hair and it left it a mess. WIFI is not free in the room and costs 10 pounds for 24 hours use. I paid 51 pounds for the room and 10 pounds for the internet.
The location is very good having lots of night life very near by.

Poor
Although booked for 3 people room was only equipped for 2, no sheets, duvet or pillow for 3rd occupant. Mattress was blood stained, bathroom smelled and didn't look overly clean. Got this as special offer for £29 - thankfully - as I certainly would not want to pay any more!

A pleasurable stay
I have stayed at this hotel a few years ago when it was a Ramada.
Everything was how I remember, that's why we rebooked again, exept for one thing they have changed they do not allow you to leave your suitcases before you check in or after you check out! This was quite annoying as we had walked from the station then had to walk all the way back and pay £5.00 per item.
Apart from that it was a pleasant stay, staff very friendly( the girl on the reception lent me her umbrella) thank you again for that.

let down travel lodge ? Ramada??
We arrived at the hotel to find it was called the travel lodge, asked at the desk was this the Ramada Encore as booked with yourselves on the net. I was told it has been travel lodge for a year maybe two. The travel lodge was just that, no comforts of a hotel, hair dryer plugs sockets for radio telephone charges etc. no place to leave your luggage late room check in. condition of hotel was poor the room smelt musty, the bathroom steam took a long time to clear. i would not stay at another travel lodge or Ramada Hotel. Maybe the advertizing might be corrected, booking with one name and staying in another name hotel yhen asked by the orginal (Ramada hotel ) to complete a survey.

cheap and mostly cheerful
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was a bother for them. Room was bit shabby and shower room was quite smelly as soon as we used the shower but for a cheap stay in very convenient location it was ok. wouldnt use this again for romantic stay but for stop over with kids or night away with the girls its fine.

Internet and parking expensive.
Great location in the center of city. However, parking is horrible. Paid over forty dollars for twenty hours of parking at a parking garage three blocks from hotel.
Internet connection costs over twenty-five dollars for 24 hours.

Great price, but sacrificed comfort!
We stayed here for 2 nights and this was the cheapest hotel we stayed in on our whole trip to England. The location to the train station isn't too bad, very walkable if you're able. The hotel itself has all been recently remodeled, very nice, bathroom was very clean and shower was spacious. The bed was small (like an American full size for 2 people!) and SO hard and uncomfortable, we could barely sleep properly. There's a lot of street noise too which made it even harder to sleep (we were on 1st floor, maybe if you're higher up or at the back of the hotel the noise wouldn't be so bad). Thank God there was air conditioning so we didn't have to open the window! The 2nd night we requested extra pillows which helped with comfort a bit. Weird stain on the couch in our room, kinda gross. I was disappointed that wireless internet was not free, it's 9.95 pounds a day! Free continental breakfast though, which was nice as none of our other more expensive hotels offered that. There's only 6 tv channels, not a good selection, and the rest are pay per view. I would recommend this hotel for the good price, location and modernness of hotel, but would definately not for sleep comfort!

Good hotel for price
Hotel in good location. Easy walking distance to train station, Minster, and wall. Room was clean and quiet with hair dryer and teapot(we were on the US second floor).
Continental breakfast was quite good: yogurt, rolls, cereal, muffins, fruit, and juice. My boyfriend and I saw no reason to pay an extra 4.5 pounds for the "hot" breakfast.
We only wish internet was included--you have to go to a third party and pay them to get online.

Hotel is nice but avoid street side rooms
All was fine at hotel except our street side room was subject to a lot of noise from the nearby club(s). Noise filtered through easily, and went well into the early hours of the morning.

Great Location!
This hotel was great! We were within walking distance of everything! Great sites and shopping were only a few minutes walk from here. Plus we were able to leave our bags with the hotel staff for the day while we shopped, even though we had already checked out. The hotel was gorgeous and the staff were wonderful. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone!

Not bad, not exceptional
This Ramada is in a convenient location in downtown York. I was surprised there were no parking facilities and had to park around the corner with an overnight fee. The room was quite basic for 3 people - small and the sofa bed was not very comfortable. Continental breakfast service is quite good. We didn't try the hot breakfast for an additional fee. If you're looking for a basic bare bones, low cost overnight facility I would recommend this hotel. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for an extended stay or if you're seeking nicer amenities.

Great location
10 minutes walk from train station, 3 minutes walk into centre. Lots of eating places around the hotel. Room is very basic but clean. Great walk-in shower. Would only use again if I got a good deal with the price.

clean affordable hotel. Not the fanciest hotel but is great for travelers on a budjet. Great location in walking distance from the train station and all the sites.

No Impressed!
We had orginally booked a room for three people which had been confirmed by email. The hotel made a mistake and only booked for two people. They were very unfriendly, stating it was our mistake. They put us in a room without extra sheets, cups or towels for the extra guest. It took three phone calls to reception obtain what we needed! The sheets were also unclean, and the tea and coffee facilites were inadequate. The only thing going for this hotel was the location, five minutes from the city centre.

Good value and centrally located
Very good hotel with good disabled access. Handy for most of York's attractions and a variety of restaurants situated close by. Breakfast can be chaotic but only to be expected as we stayed over the Easter school break. Recommended.

Modest hotel in convenient walking location
Small, clean, quiet hotel in easy walking distance of everything in York. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful at all times. They had luggage check rooms for travelers that was appreciated.

Good value for money and excellent location
My two children and I stayed at Ramada while visiting York for two nights. The hotel is situated a five minutws walk from the central station and the same from the shopping area, so location is perfect.
The room was open and spacious but the bed could have been a bit softer. The bath room was surprisingly nice decorated, though it wasn´t big, but it felt comfortable anyway. The breakfast was good to be a continental one, for some extra money we could´ve got a warm one, but chose not to. We didn´t have any problems while staying, and when we were in contact with the staff, they were nice and helpful.
If I´m going to York again, I´ll probably stay here again.
