Our room appeared small compared to some German hotels, but given the price was excellent value for a European Capital. The hotel is very easy to get to from Ostbahnhof (rail station) and therefore from Shonefeld Airport.
The hotel is in Mitte, East Berlin, which for me, is a more interesting area than West Berlin. There are loads of very economical eating places around, of varied cuisines; many of which are very veggie/vegan friendly.
The part of the wall now covered in street art by the likes of Banksy, and the Wall Museum is about 20 minutes stroll away. The area is full of students and young people giving it a vibrant atmosphere, and while it may be a bit 'edgier' than the 'nicer' areas such as Charlottenberg, it feels safe and comfortable to walk around in (even for someone in their 50's like me).
