Lagos' Centro Histórico captivates with cobblestone streets winding past 16th-century walls and golden churches adorned with azulejo tiles. The haunting former slave market stands as a sobering historical monument while ancient fortifications frame stunning harbour views. Traditional tavernas serve fresh seafood and local specialities between historic explorations and cultural discoveries. Highly walkable streets limit vehicle access, making this area perfect for leisurely exploration. Family-run restaurants and waterfront cafés offer authentic Portuguese flavours while boutique hotels in converted historic buildings provide charming accommodation with old-world character.
Porto de Mós wraps you in a golden sand dream framed by dramatic ochre cliffs that practically beg to be photographed. This peaceful pocket of the Algarve offers the perfect escape from Lagos' busier spots with scenic coastal trails winding along the Atlantic. The Ponta da Piedade lighthouse stands watch nearby, while the protected cove below creates ideal swimming conditions for beach lovers. The area serves up fresh seafood at beachfront restaurants where you can watch the sunset paint the cliffs. Modern holiday apartments and villas with sea views make up most accommodation, though public transport is limited so having a car is smart. Beach season brings the area to life, but even then, you'll find plenty of quiet spots along the coastal paths.
Ameijeira gives you the best of both worlds in Lagos—calm residential streets just a short stroll from stunning beaches. Walk to Praia da Batata or Praia do Pinhão for golden sands and azure waters without the tourist crush. The area feels authentically Portuguese with its whitewashed homes and terracotta roofs, perfect for travellers who want local flavour. You'll need to head into Lagos centre for restaurants and shopping, just 15-20 minutes away on foot. Most accommodation here are upscale holiday rentals and private villas with pools, ideal for those seeking a peaceful home base with easy beach access.

Whether you want to collect beach glass or watch the sunset, Camilo Beach is a spot you might want to check out, located 1.1 mi (1.8 km) from central São Gonçalo de Lagos. Enjoy the sunset by the shore at Dona Ana Beach, Pinhao Beach, and Praia do Barranco do Martinho, all 3 within a short walk.

If you can't wait to get to the beach, you might enjoy a trip to Meia Beach in the heart of Meia Praia. If you want to continue walking by the waves, head to Batata Beach and Student Beach, both within a short walk.
It's feeding time at the zoo! If you want to be reminded of some of the great animals our world is home to, you might want to pay a visit to Lagos Zoo, located 1.8 mi (2.9 km) from central Bensafrim e Barão de São João. Hotels.com travellers also say the area is walkable and that it has lots of nice beaches. If you'd also like to explore some of the parks in Bensafrim e Barão de São João, head to Alvor Boardwalk.
When the beach is calling your name, you might want to head down to Batata Beach, located 0.4 mi (0.7 km) from central Lagos. Enjoy the sunset by the shore at Meia Beach, Dona Ana Beach, and Pinhao Beach, all 3 within a short walk.
Beneath limestone cliffs, this Algarve gem invites exploration of its historic old town where narrow cobblestone streets wind between whitewashed buildings adorned with blue tiles. Climb to the clifftop castle for Atlantic panoramas that explain why explorers once set sail from these shores. Praia do Camilo and Dona Ana Beach offer perfect swimming coves framed by golden rock formations. Don't miss Ponta da Piedade, where boat tours navigate through sea arches and grottoes sculpted by centuries of waves. Summer brings vibrant nightlife to the marina area, while seafood restaurants serve the day's catch year-round. Visit the municipal market for local flavours, then join locals for sunset drinks overlooking the harbour where Henry the Navigator once planned his voyages.
Beautiful boutique hotel in a cute little square in Lagos old town. Although it’s in a busy area, once you’re in the hotel room, you cannot hear a thing from outside.
Room is comfortable, maybe a little small for two people but on the positive side the bed is so large and comfortable, Shower is perfect with lovely Molton Brown toiletries.
Breakfast is incredible with lots of choice. The staff are all very helpful and charming.

At check in we were welcomed by Joana who was so helpful and recommended places to see.
We stayed in room 303, which is one of the external rooms overlooking the pool and you can even see the sea in the distance. Roll had a big balcony. These rooms have steep stairs and aren’t suitable for people with mobility issues. There was a small table and chairs and a couple of sun loungers. Towels were provided as well as freshly filtered drinking water. The room was big and beds were comfortable,...

The main building where we stayed is very well maintained and the cleaning is top rate. The hotel staff can not do enough for you and make your stay a very pleasant and relaxing break. The breakfast has something for everyone and is very fresh and replenished throughout the breakfast service between 08.00 and 11.00 am. If you are a pool person (like swimming) then this is not the hotel for you as the pool areas are small and only there for cooling off. Both pools are well maintained. The hotel...

Really lovely, comfortable and clean upstairs apartment, with a spacious balcony which overlooks the pool next door, which can be accessed by a separate entrance. Plenty of on Street parking in front of the apartment. Easy communication with owners via WhatsApp. We had an issue with the door lock which was dealt with straight away the next day. A bit of a walk, around 20 mins to the old town but it was fine for us. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it as a base in Lagos.

This hotel has to be up there with the very best. Absolutely fabulous. Spa centre and gymnasium were also good. Very warm indoor swimming pool if required for later in the year when a little cooler..

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Lagos
Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Lagos is during January, February, and November when hotel prices are generally lower. For those on a budget, a stay of at least 4 to 5 days is recommended to fully appreciate the city's key landmarks, historical sites, and cultural attractions. Visitors can enjoy a variety of experiences such as relaxing on the beaches, exploring marinas, and visiting monuments. Additionally, there are plenty of opportunities for family-friendly activities, romantic strolls, and delightful café experiences. With prices potentially dropping during these months, a trip to Lagos offers great value for money while immersing yourself in its rich heritage.
Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: You may discover appealing last-minute offers to Lagos on Hotels.com by exploring the Dealsopens in new window section, where discounted hotel rates near your travel date are featured. Check the Last-Minute Deals area for opportunities to secure a quick getaway, and enable email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool on the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, so if rooms become available or rates drop, you're more likely to see a chance to book a luxury hotel at a reduced rate.
Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you find a more affordable stay in a Lagos hotel. If you're in search of something distinctive, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we'll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. Should the price be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a more favourable rate.
Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Lagos's excellent public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well connected. For those eager to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more genuine and budget-friendly experience.
