Old Town Split
Step into ancient Rome while standing firmly in the present inside Split's Old Town. The UNESCO-listed Diocletian's Palace forms the heart of this living museum with marble streets winding past Roman columns and medieval additions. Peek into the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, explore underground cellars, or simply watch local life unfold in buzzing squares and courtyards. Traditional konobas serve fresh seafood and Dalmatian wine in centuries-old stone cellars throughout the district. Boutique hotels and apartments within palace walls offer unique stays in converted Roman structures. This compact, pedestrian-only zone invites exploration, while the adjacent Riva waterfront promenade connects you to island ferries and city buses.

Bacvice
Bacvice's iconic sandy beach is where Split locals and travellers unite for sun-soaked fun. You can join a game of picigin (a beloved Croatian beach ball game) in the shallow turquoise waters or lounge on the shore with views of Diocletian's Palace. The palm-lined promenade buzzes with energy, connecting beachfront cafes to nearby attractions like the Port of Split. Waterfront tavernas serve fresh Dalmatian seafood while beach bars transform into lively nightspots after dark. Most accommodation offer sea views from modern apartments or boutique hotels just steps from the shore. The area shines with excellent walkability—just a 10-minute stroll puts you in Split's historic centre.

Varoš
Step back in time through the cobbled lanes of Varoš, where 13th-century stone houses with cheerful green shutters whisper tales of old Split. Ancient steps wind towards the fragrant pine forests of Marjan Hill, offering breathtaking Adriatic views through medieval archways. The Church of St. Nicholas stands sentinel over intimate courtyards where locals go about their daily lives. Family-run konobas serve up fresh seafood and traditional Dalmatian dishes in this walker's paradise. Accommodation options include charming stone apartments in historic homes, where you'll experience genuine Croatian hospitality. With limited vehicle access, comfortable shoes are essential for exploring this authentic area where modern life flows gently around centuries-old foundations.

Meje
Meje's coast treats you to postcard-perfect views of the Adriatic and nearby islands. Stroll along seaside promenades past traditional stone villas, or soak up the sun at Kaštelet Beach and Kašuni's pebble coves. Pine-scented cliffs provide a dramatic backdrop for swimming in crystal-clear waters. Marjan Forest Park offers hiking trails for when you need a break from beach life. Upscale seafood restaurants serve fresh Adriatic catches on terraces with spectacular sunset views. While hotels and holiday rentals tend towards the luxurious side, they deliver on Mediterranean coastal elegance. The area is best explored on foot or bicycle, with limited bus connections to Split's centre just 20-30 minutes away.

Firule
Split's Firule neighbourhood offers attractions, including Trstenik Beach.

Ancient Roman ruins form the living heart of this coastal gem, where locals sip coffee in cafes built into 1,700-year-old walls of Diocletian's Palace. The UNESCO-protected old town buzzes with life as shopkeepers and residents occupy spaces where emperors once walked. Bacvice Beach offers crystal-clear swimming just minutes from historic marble streets. Game of Thrones fans recognise filming locations throughout the city, while the Croatian National Theatre provides cultural evenings after days spent exploring. Take a ferry from the bustling port to nearby islands for day trips, or climb the bell tower of Saint Domnius Cathedral for panoramic Adriatic views. The seafront Riva promenade transforms at sunset into the city's communal living room.

Marvie Hotel & Health
"Great buffet breakfast. A little bit of confusion with their arranged pickup transportation, so if you use it, I’d suggest ensuring that you keep them posted on any flight delays because they don’t track your flight. Otherwise, it was a wonderful stay."
AC Hotel by Marriott Split
"We had a great stay at the AC Marriott Split. The hotel is modern, clean, and located in the impressive Dalmatia Tower, which, according to the staff at check-in, is the tallest building in Croatia. The location is very convenient, about a 12-minute drive from Split Old Town or less than a 30-minute walk. It’s also a great base if you’re planning to explore areas outside of Split, as getting in and out of the city is relatively easy. The hotel also has indoor parking, which was a big plus for us. They also have an indoor pool but be aware that it is not accessible for kids under 16 years old. Overall, a comfortable and convenient place to stay, especially if you have a car and plan on exploring beyond Split."
Cornaro Hotel
"Every aspect from rooms, to rooftop bar and pool, staff, breakfast and location were all fantastic."
Atrium Hotel
"Really clean hotel. Our room was great, we had a small issue and that was sorted out immediately. The staff were great and helpful. Breakfast was very good as well."
Heritage Palace Varos - MAG Quaint & Elegant Boutique Hotels
"N/A"
Art Hotel
"Soundproofing in the room is not very good, it is very clean and updated but you can hear water move in pipes in the wall and people in the hallway. The property is nice and good value for what it is. Staff are helpful but the property had an iron but no ironing board, gym is a bit worn down but decent for a hotel gym and the roof pool is nice and roof deck is nice."
Hotel Kastel 1700
"Lovely staff who were very communicative. The location was fantastic! Right in the heart of the city centre. Despite this, the windows made the room very sound proof. The room was cosy and clean. There were no lifts, stairs only, but these weren't steep or difficult to climb."
Galeria Valeria Seaside Downtown - MAG Quaint & Elegant Boutique Hotel
"Great location & value for money, interesting decoration"
Divota Apartment Hotel
"Very clean rooms.Staff very helpful.Had an issue with air con which was swiftly dealt with.Reception staff very friendly, helpful and the check-in process very clear."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Split
- Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly times to visit Split are January, November, and December, when hotel prices are generally lower. For those wishing to experience the city’s historical and cultural gems, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended. This timeframe allows for ample exploration of key attractions, including magnificent castles, fascinating museums, charming cafés, and stunning monuments, as well as opportunities for sailing and boating along the picturesque marina and beach. With lower prices during these months, visitors can enjoy great value for money while immersing themselves in the rich heritage of Split.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To uncover last-minute deals to Split, begin by checking the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals section on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted hotel options as your travel date approaches. Enabling email alerts or push notifications from Hotels.com could keep you informed about flash sales and special promotions, helping you seize opportunities to save. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're well-informed. With these features, you’re more likely to be alerted to available rooms or price drops, making your last-minute getaway more accessible.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate depending on various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you find a more economical option for your stay in a Split hotel. For those in search of a distinctive experience, boutique hotels might provide a more personalised touch and potentially better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. Should the price be on the higher end, we can suggest alternative dates that may offer a more favourable rate.
- Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre generally tend to be pricier, but with Split's superb public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located a bit further out that remains well-connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
