Scenic Retreat
Perfect choice for an active and enquiring grand child. The hosts involved the children in the morning feeding schedule with the donkeys, alpacas, the goat Princess Mary and the long horn Highland cattle along with explaining interesting characteristics. A stroll with the dogs around the property on a crisp morning and visit the horses. There was plenty of space to run, specially made climbing equipment and inside activities at the barbecue hut. Temperatures reached -4 but heating in chalet kept the upstairs comfortably warm. Downstairs there were rugs to combat the cold. All beds had electric blankets and extra bed covers, if required. Welcome touches included fresh flowers throughout the chalet, fresh fruit, coffee beans/grinder & Bodum. The table was set up for ready dining. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. As our 8 year old grand child said “I could stand and look at the scenery all day. It is like a painting”. Thank you.
Glimpse of snow on the mountain from the property.

I highly recommend a stay at Heimat Chalets. This accomodation far exceeded our expectations. The chalets are homely with many unexpected extras that add to a delightful experience. Apart from the beautiful chalet we also enjoyed taking a walk on the farm, meeting the animals, roasting marshmallows and playing outside with equipment provided. We plan to return.

Everything about our stay was perfect. It was clean and comfortable. The surroundings were peaceful and private. Plenty of space for tge kids to run around and Katie took the kids out on the farm to feed the animals - a highlight.

We were welcomed and felt like part of the family. So many pleasing little touches to make you feel at home. Thank you for giving us a place to stay that felt like a home away from home. The needs were so comfortable. Slept like a baby.

This is in a beautiful location, and provides very comfortable self-contained accommodation. Katy, one of the owners was fabulous and welcoming, and even allowed us to switch chalets (the place wasn't busy), which was very kind of her. The chalets are well stocked with provisions (milk, fruit, muesli, tea/coffee, biscuits), and the beds are comfortable.

Our stay at Heimat was wonderfully relaxing. Beautifully appointed chalet equipped with all our needs and much more. It was very special to sit out on the deck and soak up the views and sunset. Our lovely hosts, Kate and Bill, were very friendly and also informative about the local attractions (historic sites, eateries etc). The property is also very child oriented with play equipment and the lovely animals! I will certainly return on my next visit to Tasmania! Thanks Kate and Bill.

An amazing place
Katy and Bill are very friendly and accommodating. The farm is great with lovely dogs, alpacas, sheep and other animals. The chalet is very spacious, thoughtful and comfortable, very ideal for family. This place is about 10 minutes from the nearest town New Norfolk and about 45 minutes from Hobart, a great place to enjoy a farmstay.

Really Nice farm stay with a super great host. Katy and Bill are really nice and enthusiastic to accommodate all the needs of my family. We feel warm and just like coming home. They also arranged a wood fire BBQ in Australian style that's the highlight of my Australia trip. Thanks Katy and Bill and we would definitely come back if we visit Tasmania.

Charming Chalet in bushland setting
Lovely chalet, peaceful and quiet setting on a 100 acre farm yet close to town of New Norfolk. Everything you need is there. Modern, clean and comfy accommodation. Wish we could have stayed longer. Wonderful to see the Alpaccas and goat.

4/10 Fair

This could be a wonderful retreat, but...
The property itself is awesome. Only 10 min from town, but it feels very remote and secluded in a good way. The animals belonging to the property are cute and there are many wallabies and other visitors after dusk as well. The shared BBQ hut is unique, too. However, the actual accommodation was a disappointment. If you have to clean dishes and cupboards for the first hour of your stay, then there's something wrong. Property owners/managers simply cannot rely on tenants alone to keep dishes/kitchen reasonably clean. It's no problem that there's no housekeeping while you are there, but then at least somebody should do a good job cleaning between guests. Not so in our case. The place felt extremely dusty and unclean. Probably as a result of that, we had a massive ant problem. In the kitchen cupboards, the toaster (which had not been cleaned), the bathroom and, most disgustingly, the upstairs bedroom. The property is for sale and one can only hope that new owners are found soon who take care of the issues, as the location is awesome.

The gypsy wagon
Picked this chalet just because there's no other option. The gypsy wagon was special but ..... I didn't expect the bathroom was outside and we could not cook for our meals. There's totally no housekeeping for four nights stay.

Great experience. Very nice stay
We stayed in the Gypsy wagon. It was small but the size was expected. It was very well decorated. The bed was comfortable. There was a private bathroom just next to the wagon, but we have to walk a few steps outdoor. So there are quite many insects near the ceiling or the wall in the washroom (they did not approach us!). But it is in the natural environment and we understand it. We fed the animals in the morning and Frank and Linda were very friendly to chat with us. We enjoyed the stay very much! Very great experience
