Confirmed, but no room
Booked around noon and received my confirmation for the two nights. 'No need to call the hotel'. Arrived around 1AM in the night, when no staff was there anymore. Luckily, there was a machine which could give you the room key.
But not under my name or confirmation number.
Called the hotel's alarm number. With the 6 French words whe knew - staff only speaks French - we explained. And he explained: there's no room left, neither for the following night, and there also has no booking made in the hotel. 'It's a mess', is what he said about the work his front office colleagues do. So there has been made a terrible failure. He called a nearby hotel for us, very kind, but it was more expensive. He told we would been called by the next day to solve everything. Make a good guess: never got a call.
