Old Camp is perfect if you just need a place to crash between hiking and excursions or as a base camp before backpacking. Small simple rooms, and it’s a hostel so bathrooms and kitchen space are shared. We rarely had to wait for bathrooms/showers, except one morning when our building ran out of water so we had to go next door while they refilled the tank. Breakfast is simple but reliable. Like most places in Greenland, the host is there during daytime hours only, so if you need things after hours it can be a little tricky, but they have helpful phone numbers listed in the common area. The person at reception was extremely helpful and accommodating. We had to change plans last minute, and she was able to help with changing both our hostel reservation and our activity reservation with Albatros. You can easily walk between Old Camp and the airport, though it would be a little challenging with bags. We opted for the city bus which goes to Old Camp once per hour.

2/10 Poor

The water was broken and there was no water. I couldn't use the toilet or shower. It was inconvenient that there was no one at the check-in. I had requested someone to pick me up at the airport, but there was no one there.

Hostel with minimal amenities but nothing crucial missing. The only challenge was regulating heat in the room on warmish nights, but we figured out how to block open the window so that it wouldn’t squeak or bang. I would definitely stay there again.

during the night the bunk bed collapsed under me and it was only by sheer luck that my brother and I escaped without serious injury. the hotel is really worn out, better go somewhere else.

Good
Only used as a base for stays outside but it served its purpose quite well. Bit far "out of town" but then nothing is really far so that isn't really a problem. Arguably it is a bit basic here but it does not pretend to be anything other than that and if you come to Greenland expecting different things then you are probably not being realistic.

Very clean. Very old. All facilities are very limited but then it doesn't pretend to be otherwise. Front desk staff are great!

Old Camp is exactly as it describes itself: basic shared facilities in a spectacular setting. The rooms are functional and very clean. The shared areas are useful and comfortable. The staff is outstanding! There is regular transportation to the other end of town, but the walk is easy, peaceful, and lovely. And even though Kangerlussuaq is small, staying in Old Camp feels more like getting out into the country.

4/10 Fair

Basically it is far from everything you need The receptionist was very nice and helpful but if you arrive off time after 4 pm. all you get is to retrieve a key in an envelope so forget buying a drink or chocolate bar. You have to walk back to the airport 20 minutes away. They do have bus service when you arrive and leave, but between that, the schedule is irregular. When my flight got in 3 hours late, I was told I would have to wait another hour for service. The rooms with not even a sink, they have 3 toilets and a few showers for 15 rooms. Oh yes, the 8 x 10 rooms can cost close to 200$ Sorry, but at that price you can find way better. Finally, their policy of no cancellation refund when you are traveling in the Arctic with being at the mercy of weather is a little too rigid for my taste.

2/10 Poor

Not the best
Nice view of the northern lights if you're lucky. That was the best thing about this place, which is falling apart. They take very little pride in the facilities, and definitely not the service. The breakfast was limited, they expect you to make/unmake your own bunk beds, which are all broken and shattered. We alerted reception to this issue but they did not care. The cleaners come to your room at 8:50 and demand you clean your room and leave - checkout is at 9AM. Reception is rarely open, making it difficult to resolve issues such as the showers and toilets smelling like sewage. For 120 Euros, it's extremely overpriced.
