A beautiful and incredibly historical place. We're very lucky to still have authentic places like the nboc. Love the breakfast, please don't change anything.

This is our second time staying at the North Branch Outing Club once in 2023 and again in 2025. Our first visit was solid largely in part to the young male housekeeper who greeted us upon arrival, gave us a tour of the house and historical elements, and chatted to us about fishing during the few days we stayed there. All in all it made for a worthwhile trip making us return customers. That brings us to this stay during July 2025. The staff is a mixed bag ranging from very open and helpful to down right cold and rude. We were in the area visiting family and thus did not spend a considerable amount of time on site. Our time on site was intended to participate in the social opportunities staying at a b&b offers - namely breakfast. Its worth mentioning that between my wife, toddler, and myself we probably weigh about 300lbs and really don't eat a lot of food especially in the morning also that I have two dogs in the room upstairs one of them needed to take some pills in the morning. I had very openly taken a small amount of eggs up to my room to use the eggs as a pocket to feed my dog a pill. On the third morning of our four day stay the lady (owner/cook/enforcer) decided it would be a good idea to confront me on my 'brazen' actions. She did so by verbally repremanding me in front of my family and guests on a day that happened to be my birthday - it was embarrassing or both of us. We packed up immediately and left and will not return - mend your manners and keep your eggs lady.

Michigan Scenic Treasure

The views of the river, along with the history and nostalgia of the lodge create an exceptional experience. North Branch Outing Club setting is spectacular. Terry & staff made our stay extremely comfortable and provided incredible hospitality.

Very old and historic property. Only stairs to second floor. Not air conditioned, but floor and ceiling fan in rooms. Right along Au Sable River.

A lucky find

This place is a hidden gem. An historic trout club in a beautiful setting. Terry and her crew provide a delicious and hearty breakfast. And Richard who runs the fly fishing store is a wealth of knowledge.

Shelby and David were amazing hosts. The Place is stunning and the heritage is phenomenal. This is the place that Hemingway Edison and Henry Ford stayed at in the early 1900s. Very unique experience and feels like a home away from home. Couldn’t have asked for anything better wonderful time. If you were into fly fishing it’s a place to be.

Hunter, our main contact, was awesome. I wish the glass above the door in room 14 had been blacked out. It doesn’t open anyway and covering it would have blocked the action sensitive hallway lights that shown into the bedroom and woke us up constantly.

The room i signed up for looked nice. I wasnt put into that room. I was put into a small, dirty, extremely outdated room that was infested with ladybugs. We asked to get the room that i felt i was paying for, and the manager obliged. Its NOT Grayling! Its advertised as Grayling, but its 30 miles away. On a very hairy little tiny dirt road for 9.5 miles. Advertising is horrible. Its not what its meant to be. With that said, Terri was wonderful and very nice. Breakfast was great. If youre a fisherman looking to wake up and walk down to the river....great place! If you want a luxurious, quiet getaway....this is NOT your place.
Steven, 1-night trip

6/10 Okay

I truly appreciate the staff’s dedication to preserving the historical character of the facility—it’s clear that a great deal of care has gone into maintaining its authenticity. However, some aspects of the stay were quite unusual and challenging for today’s travelers. The room was very small and lacked modern essentials such as a door lock, microwave, and refrigerator, which are especially important during the summer months. The fan in the open window was not sufficient to maintain a comfortable temperature or humidity level, making it difficult to sleep both at night and during the day. The air-conditioning was non an option. The twin beds were small and not particularly comfortable, which further impacted the quality of rest. The shared bathrooms had non-secured doors, which did not provide peace of mind. Additionally, the breakfast offering was limited to a basic continental selection—an English breakfast was not available during our stay, despite being expected. Given these conditions, we chose not to return the next day and instead made the decision to drive home overnight. That said, we are grateful for the warm and welcoming attitude of the staff, which we truly appreciated. Thank you.

We enjoyed 2 days at this lovely, vintage, lodge. If you like history, antiques, and God's beautiful creation, LOOK no more - THIS is where you want to be. There are 2 very lovely porches to enjoy your book or simply listen to the Au Sable & birds and a few steps down to the river for fishing. Great dining opportunities are close or up to 20 minutes away. We plan to stay here again!!
