2/10 Poor
7 Dec 2023
I booked the Kairaba Aqua Mondo hotel with Expedia and it was a non-refnudable booking which I totally understand. However, it baffles me that they could not make an exception or any sort of consideration for me.
Here's what happened: I was going on a Suez canal cruise with my mum for her birthday in Nov 2023 and a couple weeks before the cruise MSC Cruise line decided it was too dangerous to go from Marseille France to Luxor Egypt via Suez, so they cancelled the cruise due to the geopolitical situation between Hamas/Israel. I was fully intending to go on this trip and end the cruise with a stay in Safaga at Kairaba Aqua Mondo. If the cruise was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances and the cruise line only covers the cruise and insurance only covers countries directly affected by the war (Israel and Gaza) where does that leave me? Stuck paying for a hotel I never got to use. Every other hotel booking on my trip (there were 4 others) refunded me the points or money or deposit because it was not my fault that the cruise happened.
I went through Expedia 3 times to ask them to help contact the hotel and make my case each time they got a generic reply from Kairaba saying they will not be refunding or crediting anything. I find this to be terrible customer service and I don't often write reviews but I felt this occasion should be documented and serve as a warning to others that it is probably better to always go with the big reliable chains like Marriott or Hilton.
