Top neighbourhoods in Taipei

Xinyi

Xinyi's ultra-modern skyline is dominated by the towering Taipei 101, a symbol of Taiwan's economic might. Shoppers flock to the district's glass-walled luxury malls while business types hustle between corporate headquarters. The area pulses with energy from high-end restaurants, rooftop bars, and the stunning city views from Elephant Mountain's hiking trails. Getting around couldn't be easier with three metro stations connecting you to the rest of Taipei. You can choose between upscale international hotel chains for accommodation or venture to nearby districts for more budget-friendly options. The district truly comes alive after dark when the skyscrapers light up the night sky.

Daan

Daan's tree-lined streets offer a perfect blend of local living and urban adventure. Yongkang Street buzzes with tea houses and trendy cafes, while the grand Taipei Mosque and National Taiwan University provide authentic cultural experiences. Daan Forest Park delivers 26 hectares of green escape when you need a breather from city exploration. Getting around couldn't be easier with multiple metro stations connecting you to all of Taipei. From boutique hotels to upscale apartments, accommodation here strike a balance between comfort and local charm. The area serves up everything from street food to high-end restaurants, making it ideal for curious food lovers.

Zhongshan

Zhongshan mixes business with pleasure, where sleek corporate towers meet underground shopping adventures. The Museum of Contemporary Art and historic Taipei Film House offer cultural stops between browsing sessions at Zhongshan Metro Mall's neon-lit corridors. Nearby Ningxia Night Market delivers mouthwatering street food when hunger strikes. Hit the tree-lined boulevards during the day and discover hidden gems tucked between glass skyscrapers. Getting around is a breeze with three metro stations serving the area. Business travellers appreciate the upscale hotels, while foodies enjoy everything from quick bites to elegant dining spots. Most attractions sit within walking distance, with wide pavements making exploration comfortable even during busy weekday rushes.

Wanhua

Step into Wanhua, Taipei's oldest district, where centuries of history unfold around every corner. Incense wafts from ornate Longshan Temple while the neon glow of Snake Alley beckons curious foodies. Wander through Bopiliao Old Street's preserved shophouses and dive into night markets where vendors serve up beef noodles and exotic snacks until the early hours. Traditional teahouses and family-run eateries dot the narrow lanes, offering authentic Taiwanese cuisine at wallet-friendly prices. Budget hostels and mid-range hotels in converted heritage buildings provide cosy places to crash after exploring. The convenient Longshan Temple MRT station connects you easily to the rest of the city.

Songshan

Songshan delivers a double life that'll make your trip to Taipei twice as nice. Rub elbows with suits at the World Trade Centre by day, then dive into the sensory overload of Raohe Night Market when the sun sets. The historic Ciyou Temple offers a peaceful escape between shopping sprees at Breeze Centre, while Taipei Arena hosts events worth checking your calendar for. Business travellers appreciate the sleek hotels with all the modern perks, while foodies can't get enough of the street eats that won't break the bank. Getting around is a breeze with three convenient MRT stations connecting you to everywhere worth going in Taipei.

Taipei and related destinations

Between skyscrapers and street markets, Taipei delivers sensory overload in the most delightful way. Ascend Taipei 101 for views that explain why locals call this 'Beautiful Island.' Temples like Longshan offer incense-scented respite from urban energy, while the National Palace Museum houses treasures spirited away from the Forbidden City. The Miniatures Museum showcases tiny worlds with outsized charm. For nature without leaving town, Taipei Zoo's pandas draw crowds while nearby tea houses in Maokong serve oolong with mountain views. Palais de Chine Hotel

Palais de Chine Hotel

8/10 Good
"Can’t beat the location, central to everything. Although I recently learned that the Hyatt by 101 could be better location for high end shopping. As for me, I love how comfortable the beds are. I love the balcony with a view to the rail station and we saw rainbows from our balcony two days in a row. I enjoyed our stay. The deep bathtub, the versatile design of the washroom that could open up and be exposed to the living area. Perhaps not for everyone but I love it. I also enjoy the gym which is stocked with water, towels and apples. The water dispenser/machine which also dispensed carbonated water was very convenient to use on each floor. Many subway lines are just right by the metro station. Lots of eateries around. Endless things to do and see just around there including the night market, less than 15 minutes walk."
