Downtown Richmond
City centre Richmond blends historic charm with cultural flair along cobblestone streets. The Virginia State Capitol's neoclassical columns stand proudly amid Civil War landmarks, while the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts showcases artistic treasures. Visitors can explore Shockoe Slip's character, stroll along Canal Walk, or discover the stories behind Monument Avenue. Dining options range from upscale Southern cuisine to casual pubs serving local specialities. Stay in converted historic buildings turned boutique hotels or modern accommodation. Getting around is easy with walkable streets, regular bus service, and the nearby Richmond Main Street Station for venturing beyond this riverfront gem.

Fan District
The Fan District charms with its striking Victorian terrace houses and fan-shaped streets that look like they're straight out of a history book. Culture hounds can bounce between the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and smaller galleries tucked between leafy blocks. Monument Avenue offers a shady stroll past historic statues while local cafes and shops create perfect people-watching perches. You'll find everything from cosy brunch spots to craft cocktail bars scattered throughout this walkable area. Most attractions sit within a 10-minute stroll of each other, and GRTC buses connect easily to city centre Richmond. Boutique B&Bs in converted Victorian homes make ideal bases for exploring this architectural wonderland.

Scott's Addition
Scott's Addition serves up a former industrial district now buzzing with creative energy and craft drinks. This walkable grid of brick warehouses has transformed into Richmond's hippest playground. You can hop between breweries, meaderies, and cideries while food trucks sizzle nearby. Vintage arcade bars and bowling alleys keep the fun rolling well into the night. Getting around is best done on foot, with the compact layout perfect for venue-hopping. Limited bus service means ride-sharing is your friend for ventures beyond the area. Boutique hotels in converted lofts offer industrial-chic lodging, while rooftop bars provide stunning city views after sunset.

Shockoe Slip
Shockoe Slip's cobblestone streets transport you to Richmond's storied past where 19th-century tobacco warehouses now house trendy boutiques and art galleries. The scenic Canal Walk invites you to stroll alongside the James River while reading markers that bring the city's industrial heritage to life. After dark, the district transforms as historic brick facades glow warmly under gas-style street lamps. Upscale restaurants in converted warehouses serve modern American cuisine, while casual riverside spots offer craft beers and relaxed vibes. Most accommodation feature boutique hotels with exposed brick and river views. The compact district is easily explored on foot, though those cobblestones definitely call for sturdy shoes.
Shockoe Bottom
Shockoe Bottom's cobblestone streets tell tales of Richmond's past, where 19th-century buildings now house trendy art spaces and nightlife spots. The Edgar Allan Poe Museum's enchanting garden courtyards offer literary charm, while the American Civil War Museum provides historical depth. Former tobacco warehouses have transformed into galleries and performance venues, creating a perfect mix of history and modern creativity. The area buzzes with restaurants serving Virginia comfort food and craft cocktails in converted historic buildings. Boutique hotels occupy restored structures, giving travellers a chance to sleep surrounded by history. While limited public transit exists, the area is highly walkable, with the scenic James River waterfront just steps away.

Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Richmond West End by IHG
"Exceptional staff! Everyone we interacted with performed as though they genuinely wanted to make us happy and experience a pleasant stay, I felt like these people should be working at a fancy five star hotel. The room was modest, probably the smallest bathroom I’ve ever had but everything was spotless, fresh. The furniture was in good shape and actually practical. A minor imperfection in the bathroom baseboard…behind the door, the only nit-picky thing I could notice. There was a small “restaurant” on the main floor. It’s set up like a lunch counter with a few extra tables around, again it was clean and in good repair and the staff treated us like it was a fine dining establishment, not the Kristy Kraft. The menu is short and simple, we had the burgers and the servings were generous, cooked to our preferences and most importantly, they were great! Loved being able to get a good basic dinner with pleasant people after a long day moving my kid into UVA. Would definitely stay here again, totally lucked out with this random hotels.com last minute pick!"
Quirk Hotel Richmond
"Such a beautiful place. Felt like staying at a scene from Eloise at the plaza. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Was a good location to explore Richmond."
Omni Richmond Hotel
"The hotel is well worth the price paid."
Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Richmond West at I-64, VA
"Room was very tidy, some uses like one of the lamps by the desk was missing a bulb. Breakfast and coffee was good. Staff was ok, at the desk. Staff for the breakfast was good. The pool was nice, though the hot tub was extremely hot, I couldn’t even dip my feet in, it was that boiling. Location was good."
Best Western PLUS Executive Hotel
"All was as needed."
Four Points by Sheraton Richmond
"Extremely well maintained and clean"
Linden Row Inn
"Room and buildings were very unique and we loved the indoor courtyard. Good location, parking was reasonable $10 fee for day/overnight. Good value for the price."
