Nice location, fairly basic but overall good
The views are great, and the location is good. The cabins are rather basic and could do with some improvements and updating, but comfortable enough and overall I would recommend staying here.

The only good thing is the view (nice balcony facing the sea). All the rest was bad and definitely not worth the price. Terrible welcome (the staff was angry coz you are not supposed to arrive after four... how could we know? They wanted to charge us a 10 dollar fine), our room was never cleaned, the working wi-fi was turned off in the evening, the water was barely warm - sometimes -. For a lower price I wouldn't complain, but we paid 60 dollars per night. NOT recommended.

I can't recommend this as a place to stay. I was the only person there in the off-season, and it took 15 minutes to find the person to check me in. They locked the main gate at around 10, and I had to check to make sure I didn't get locked out accidentally when I went out.

2/10 Poor

Extremely overvalued
Considering the place was empty, and other hotels were adjusting prices to fit demand, it was disappointing to find how overpriced this venue was. We weren't scuba aficionados, and other hotels in the area probably offered the same quality for a similar price, but we were paying the same price for a Junior suite in a 3.5 star hotel in Panama City. So, get up early and drive to Portobelo, but don't stay there.

Can't get any closer to the water.
Nothing fancy but a great location on the water if you are there for water activities or just to relax.

Paradise looks better in photos
Porto Belo is an scenic but rather poor place on the Caribbean. It is known for 2 ruined forts. We had hoped to see birds. The place was hard to find in the dark. It was out of town like the other resorts. I am sure divers like this place when the restaurant is open. Photos are a bit deceptive.

right on the water
quirky little place right on the water. Staff was nice but mostly absent. No office. No check in. No check out. Just the boat driver available and most of the time he can't be found.. He's a nice guy, but don't look to get any questions answered.. even in Spanish. Watch out for the showers... the electric hot water heating system attached to the shower head can electrocute you.

Not really worth the effort!!
This hotel says it is in the town of Portobello, but is really about 3 miles or so out of town. Without a car, it was difficult to get around.....one time a taxi driver scammed us and when I told him where to go; he got a police officer involved to complete the scam. The Spanish Colonial ruins are interesting, but other than that, avoid Portobello. There is nothing going on there, but poverty......and most restuarants closed during the week.

Huge potential
I booked this hotel based an erroneous map location as in Portobelo vs. 4 kilometers outside town. However, the location is gorgeous and a taxi costs $2 or a 30 minute walk. Rooms are adequate but not secure. Service is spotty.
