I know downtown Newark has a bad reputation, but I walked around the area to buy coffee and food yet never felt unsafe. However, I didn't go out late at night since most places close early anyway.

Newark has changed quite a bit since the early 2000's. I enjoy visiting, spending time there and catching a show at NJPAC or Tge Prudential Center.

I graduated from Rutgers Law School over 30+ years ago. Its inspiring to see what the neighborhood is like today. Just beautiful place to visit and stay. Easier to navigate less crowded than Manhattan.

We came to Newark for our son's college graduation, the ceremony was conveniently located on the other side of the hotel building. A quick walk to the prudential center.

"Hotel itself was wonderful. Great staff, super clean and renovated facilities, and wide brightly lit hallways. Parking was a little obnoxious - while Expedia claims you can park for $20/night, that's not true. That is a member's only price not accessible to visitors so you pay $25/night but you get in-and-out privileges and they're open 24 hrs a night so it's doable. Just make sure you sign up to park with them immediately when you drive in.. if you try to park in temp parking and go check in first, they'll boot your car lol. Luckily it was easily resolved when that happened to me. Only hotel downside is that the surrounding neighbourhood is sketchy and I would refrain at all costs from walking around outside at night... But luckily you have those in-and-out privileges, eh? "

"The room was large and set up well for working online, and there were several convenient lunch options (pre-made salad and soups) to buy downstairs when I didn't have time to go out. There was also a mini fridge and microwave in the room, which was very helpful. It was also near the Prudential Center and straight forward to get there. "
"There were some issue at check in since the room was not available, but the lady was very understanding and provided us with free dinner and breakfast for the inconvenience. So thank you"
