Please stay elsewhere.
Horrible condition hotel. Reeks of cigarettes and extremely dirty. Blood stains in the sheets. Map was also wrong about the location which made it hard to find. Location is OK.

Good for the price range
Overall the hotel is ok for the price range. I stayed in a 'Executive Room' on the 3rd floor facing the back of the hotel. I would recommend asking for rooms facing the back to avoid the noise from the traffic, and on a high floor if available. Please note that your experience may be different based on how important the good and less than good aspects highlighted below are to you. Some of the good aspects being: 1) Fairly accessible to city center being located about 10 minutes walk to line 1 metro station 2) cable TV available with free on-demand English movies 3) One guy manning the front desk in the afternoons can speak some English 4) good wifi access 5) good size room Some of the less than great aspects being 1) Cleaning staff are a bit rude, best to be out of the room early in the mornings before they arrive 2) The area to the back of the hotel is quite noisy (the rooms facing the highway I imagine would have had more noise) 3) No mosquito nets on the windows so, mosquitoes can be an annoyance in the warmer months and on the lower floors 4) soundproofing is non-existent and the hallway acts as an echo chamber 5) hallway carpets and room furnishings could benefit from an upgrade

Dark, dirty and far from where you want to be.
The hotel is far from where you want to be in Shanghai. A 10 minute walk to the subway station which is also not ideal. My room was very very dirty. Every single day I would come back to my room to find 5 or 6 business cards for prostitutes slid under my door. Not much English at the front desk. Do not recommend.

Dirty dated hotel
Hotel is close to the metro this is the only good thing about this place. Towels where changed daily. TV only had one English channel out a of 300 the room was dated and dirty with stains on the wall hallways were dingy, the whole place reeked of cigarettes, you had to pay 100 yuan deposit for room card which Expedia do not mention, the staff are extremely rude and speak little English. Family's hang out in the hallway in morning and evening shouting and talking loudly and slamming doors, cleaners use walkie talkies very early in the morning and very loudly, utter dump Expedia should pull this hotel from there inventory!

The photos are misleading completely!
I booked this hotel attracted by the photos on Expedia website. However, it turns out much worse than that! The room is not clean, covers are dirty. They do provide body wash and toothpaste. The staffs are very unfreindly and rude, because there are not enough people and all of them are very busy. This turns out to be a Inn near a bus/railway station. The cheap price and attractive photos on website may mislead you a lot. I think they put photos from other hotels here. Generally, not recommended unless you are really looking for the cheapest hotel.

Wrong address
We spent 2.5hr looking for this hotel. The location shown in the map is way off. Had to ask several natives just to get on the right direction. The pictures shown are really old, it doesnot look that new at all.

Hotel Staffs cannot speak English so if you don't speak Chinese, it would be difficult to communicate with them.

cheap with acceptable quality
The location is okay, as it is only 15 minutes from a subway/metro; however, since it is next to a bus station, the surrending area is not ideal. The price is good, but there is no place for guest to dry their cloth. Also, they still cleaned my room after I put a no distrub sign outside my door. The hotel is old without wifi. I would say this is a very economical way to stay in Shanghai.

Good hotel
The hotel is a little old but the staff keeps it clean enough. I liked my stay except for the fact that the telly or the remote was not working. Other than this it was not a bad place to stay. It was my second stay at the hotel.

If you are a foreigner dont go...
We booked this hotel in the US on hotels.com. On the website, there was a business standard room. However, We made sure to book the Executive Room, because we were traveling with our 4 year old son. We also chose a nonsmoking room. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff could not find a confirmation number. We showed them the documentation and after 1 hour, they assigned us a room! We thought it was pretty shabby for an executive room and the smell of smoke was everywhere! We found out after 2 days that the hotel placed us in the standard business room. We complained to the staff, but they refused to move us or reimburse us the difference. They said it was hotels.com fault for pricing the rooms incorrectly. They said we reserved the standard room even though we paid for the executive. We contacted hotels.com in china but they did not help. Avoid this place if you dont live in china.

Handy location, as far as taking the subway.
The staff is divided, some are friendly, some are not... I forget how wonderful I have it here in town, when I find out how much smoking there is everywhere !!! The subway station is about 4 blocks walking distance, great system of subway, to be soon the largest in the world! price of the place is fair, then again, you get what you pay for, but at least the rooms are clean.

first, no refrig in room. second . no safe in my room. the hotels com map needs a fix. hotel is in the opposite direction . many english speaking movie channels on flatscreen tv. free. bed seemed to have no mattress. still slept fine. for the price i very much enjoyed my stay. staff speaks no english. for movies hit the yellow button. or just go up and down the numbers on the remote, you get dozens of channels. bathroom was like new. closet for clothes. market 2 blocks away for sodas and great street food vendor. subway 1 5-10 minute walk . to find hotel, just look for the 1009 sign. that is the address. 100 yds from hutai rd. east of . even after booking, i walked by without noticing . low key clean fairly modern hotel that i liked staying at.

wrong map address
The address itself was correct. but map showed totally different place. Unbelievably, all the map directions for hotels I reserved in China on your sites were wrong. I am Chinese, somehow I could find my way there. Imaging a foreigner, it would be a pain to follow the map. Is there a reason to show the map this way? Or is there a correct way to use it? Are you going to review and mark the correct locations on the map? Lou

8/10 Very good

Really good!
The map is indeed wrong but the place is not hard to find once you figure it out. The district is basic typical Chinese neighbourhood with a lot going on til late evening where grandmas walk around in pyjamas or the youth goes for food. I never was bothered and only had a pleasant experience from people. There are a lot of places to eat around, dont get discouraged by the little run-down look of the restaurants, its a norm here, but the food is cheap n tasty. The hotel is 10min from Metro, within nice walking distance with lots of shops on the way. Hotel rooms were of surprisingly good European style. Even though my room was from the road side it wasnt too loud to fall asleep. I stayed there over 2weeks and could totally live there longer. The staff is kind and helpful but without going out of their way; no wonder cos it seems they get a lot of stress from the Chinese guests already. I used the washing clothes service and they did it quite well but charged me additionally for ironing, which wasn't necessary but I stupidly didn't understand that so be careful if you don't want to overpay. The only thing about the hotel is that people gather and smoke downstairs in the lobby so forget about using wifi in the evenings if you're sensitive about that. For this prize it's the hottest deal in town. I've just came back from a short trip to Beijing and same prized hotel was a horrifying experience, this one is like a luxury. Go for it!
