Gorgeous place. Lake and mountain views were breathtaking. A few nice places to eat and a couple of shops to look at. A few days here was perfect. Far less options here than Queenstown so if you like peace and scenery, Wanaka is ideal

Wanaka is a lovely little town in a country where the towns/cities are often a little dull. The lake is stunning and it's a great hub for exploring the wider areas.

The walk around Lake Wanaka is so beautiful, especially in autumn! Take some extra time to enjoy the best feature of the town.

Good base for that part of South Island. Lots of sports options if that's what you want. Nice restaurants in and around and a few wineries. Unfortunately it's slowly becoming another Queenstown which is a bit of a shame but inevitable.

Wānaka was a very nice town. Seemed like a lot to do but we only had one night there. We took a boat ride to Wao waho. That was fun. Also can rent bikes. Lots of biking and walking paths.

Best activity in Wanaka area for us was the Rob Roy Glacier hike. Worth the long drive along the dirt track.

Seems everything is expensive in Wanaka, just like other tourist resort areas. Lots of things to do.
"I have nothing but good things to say. Cleanliness, condition, service, location (essentially right in town, less than three blocks to the lake), parking and overall comfort. I stayed with my 14 year old son for five nights in one of the units with a loft. We loved it! Also, the kitchen was well stocked, there’s a dishwasher, and there’s in-room washer and dryer. "
"Staff were friendly and helpful, recommended the local feeds! Room was spacious and had a lot of amenities such as airfryer, hot plate and cooking necessities. Reception had lots of extra equipment available to borrow for the day, e.g. discs for disc golf, hiking poles and games."
"Loved it! Easy walking distance to the lake and heaps of cafes. We stayed in the budget 2 bedroom self contained cottage and although old it was the perfect choice for us and excellent value for money. I thought we would be really cold but there were heaps of blankets and more than enough heaters to go round. Great spot to set yourself up in for access to Cardrona and the Snow Farm. Hot water and pressure were great. Only thing I didn’t love was that there was no drop box for the room key as we departed early. I didn’t feel right leaving it in an unlocked box that could easily be opened by the next person and I didn’t have a code handy for the safe box. It was a little stressful figuring out what to do when we were in a hurry to leave for a full day on the slopes. I ended up giving the key to the guy in the office next to reception. Overall would recommend and stay again!"
"Stayed single room twin bed ensuite.
Private rooms are expensive in Wanaka. By far the first most expensive private room in NZ.
All good with essentials however which the bathroom are equipped with heater.
2 minutes walk to Four Square grocery and lots of eateries.
Only negative issue is bathroom is very cold in private room ensuite as there is no heater as compared to Haka Tekapo which has heater in both room and bathroom.
The detergents are diluted with 10% detergent and 90% water, guess that’s to save cost.
I bought my own detergent (not expensive from brand Pam’s) from four square to make sure the oily utensils are cleaned and oil free. "
"Room was very comfortable and warm on arrival. It was difficult to maintain the warmth however as the heatpump went off on a very cool night, Warm again in the morning. Very clean and lovely staff. Thank you for a lovely stay."
