Siem Reap is a wonderful place to visit! It has a blend of the ancient & the modern for people from all walks of life. Engaged a driver (MJ) to take the three of us around for 2 days and it cost USD140. Places covered are Beng Maelea Temple, Tonle Sap Lake, Angkor Wat, Bayon, Angkor Thom & Banteay Srei. The temples are ancient, magnificent & put simply, amazing! Also had the chance to watch the Apsara dance performance at Koulen Restaurant in town and it cost USD12 per person which includes a reasonably sumptuous buffet dinner. The town which is less than 2km is vibrant with a wide variety of activities: excellent restaurants & bars which are reasonably priced. Lots of stalls selling handicrafts & paintings (beautiful & skillfully drawn) are found around the town. Cost of paintings are very reasonable. The hotel we stayed in is located not too far from town, away from the hustle & bustle. It costs a mere USD2 to get a tuk tuk from the hotel. Angkoriana is a three-storey boutique hotel (no lift available so not very friendly for those who are handicapped). The room was surprisingly well equipped! Clean bath towel, face towel & hand towel provided. Room is very spacious and the beds are comfortable too. Air-conditioning was working perfectly well. Swimming pool is small but big enough to have loads of fun!! Buffet breakfast is ok (do not expect a great spread) with both Asian & Western favourites available. All in all, it was a wonderful experience!
