Learn more about Hakuba
Powder hounds flock to the Japanese Alps where Hakuba's world-class ski resorts offer runs that hosted the 1998 Winter Olympics. Between face-shots of legendary snow, soak aching muscles in steaming onsen hot springs that feel like nature's perfect apology for a day of wipeouts. Summer transforms the area into a hiker's paradise with trails winding through Chubu-Sangaku National Park towards Mount Karamatsu's summit. The village itself maintains a refreshing authenticity despite its international fame. Local restaurants serve soba noodles with the reverence others reserve for fine wine. Don't miss Hakuba Happo-One for the most impressive terrain or Iwatake for panoramic alpine views that explain why the Japanese consider mountains sacred.

Hakuba West Coast Inn Villa
"Very friendly"
The Happo
"Wonderful hotel, service, location, everything!"
HOTEL LA VIGNE HAKUBA by Onko Chishin
"One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Room was excellent with an amazing Mountain View. Full amenities and top notch service. Staff goes above and beyond and are personable and friendly, even as English speaking tourists. The breakfast was delicious and a perfect mix of made to order hot dishes along with a large spread of buffet items. The best hotel in Hakuba if you want a luxurious and relaxing experience."
Hakuba Panorama Hotel
"Staffs can speak good English, properly was nice. "
Hakuba Sunvalley Hotel
"Although the property is not exactly updated, it was incredibly clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful. It’s located right in front of the beginners lift and was close proximity to the ski school and shuttle pick up. I would definitely stay here again in the future. "
Hakuba Ryujin Onsen RYOKAN SUI
"Amazing staff very attentive and helpful. The room, the onsen are very clean and well maintained. The food was amazing. Steps from a couple of conbinis and good restaurants. Only slight downside is that it’s a bit of a walk (20 min) or a short drive to Goryu ski resort. It’s a 15min cab ride to Happo. Didn’t find the public buses to be as easy or convenient to use so we used cabs or walk."
Hakuba Hotel Ougiya
"Had a great stay! Thanks for everything "
Courtyard by Marriott Hakuba
"Property was amazing. Staff was kind enough to accommodate my request for a private onsen room. Which I should have booked initially but didn't realize was an option. Shuttle bus stop at the front door will take you to various ski resorts in the area. Staff is excellent, helpful, kind. Restaurant is great! Had use of a ski locker as well. Full locker, not just a place to hang skus and poles. "
Hotel Sierra Resort Hakuba
"The property is nice, the onsen is a terrific feature and the staff were excellent and helpful with our many questions for inbound/outbound travel. However, for upwards of $400 per night, the dining options were rather basic and, given the hotel's somewhat remote location, the sporadic shuttle schedule and drop-off locations made the ski resorts somewhat of a challenge to reach."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Hakuba
- Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly months to visit Hakuba are June, September, and November, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For an enriching experience of the area's landmarks, history, and culture, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended. During this time, visitors can explore various attractions, including skiing, hiking, and relaxing in hot springs, all of which offer great value for money. Engaging in sports like wakeboarding, windsurfing, and snowmobiling also enhances the adventure. With the possibility that prices may drop in these months, Hakuba is an affordable destination for travellers on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To find last-minute deals for hotels in Hakuba, begin by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted rates as your travel date approaches. Enabling email alerts or push notifications will keep you informed about flash sales and special promotions, helping you seize opportunities to save. Additionally, Smart Shopping is a useful comparison tool available via the app, allowing you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you stay updated on the best options for your last-minute getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may differ depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates might help you save on your stay in a Hakuba hotel. For those seeking unique accommodations, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised experience and occasionally offer better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is higher or lower than average, and if it is on the higher side, we might suggest more affordable dates to help you find a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels situated nearer to the city centre usually command higher prices, yet with Hakuba's superb public transport links, you might discover a more affordable independent hotel further afield that's still well connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
