Our guide for the best things to do this summer in Lake Garda helps you make the most out of your visit to Italy's largest lake. This idyllic spot is right in the middle of northern Italy and spreads into 3 provinces – Verona, Brescia, and Trento. The name of the lake comes from the Germanic word meaning “place of guard” or “place of safety” and has been referred to in documents dating back to the 8th century.

Lake Garda is a very popular holiday destination, especially for families and outdoor lovers in summer. The lake is surrounded by picturesque lakeside towns offering family-friendly beaches and activities. There are also plenty of opportunities to get active, with the water and surrounding mountains being sought-after for hiking, windsurfing, and cycling.

Bardolino is a beautiful town at the widest point of Lake Garda, on the Verona side. It’s most well-known for being the centre of the Bardolino wine region, so a tasting tour is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon in summer. Bardolino is the signature wine of the Garda region and was already well-known back in Roman times.

There are plenty of wineries and cellars to explore on your trip to Bardolino town. You can either join a group wine tasting tour for the day or explore on your own by bicycle or car. If you visit the town just after summer in September, you could even time it with the annual wine festival, which is a fantastic experience for wine lovers.
