The only things I didn't like were 1) although it as supposed to be a 5 start resort, breakfast was a buffet and so was like any other 'canteen' breakfast and 2) for half board and all inclusive tariffs, most restaurants and menus charge an additional cost for almost all of the meal choices. For all inclusive tariffs, I have not experienced this before. We ended up with a large bill on top.

We were quite disappointed with this hotel. It did not provide us the experience we thought. Elements were lovely but the service was a very poor level. Simple request were just not handled in a timely manner. However we got an upgrade to the room after complaining due to our hotel room not being clean and the new room was fantastic other then a power cut 4x in 2 days and having the maintenance guy out 4 times. We wouldn’t return and I’m not sure it’s value for money but overall we had a lovely time. The beach is beautiful

Decent hotel in a good location. The hotel is very clean, and the beach is very nice and not too busy. Gym and spa facilities were also good. Just a few things made the experience less enjoyable, if you’re on a half board package your dinner doesn’t include water or a soft drink, I could understand alcohol but this is just cheeky. Equally, they have a Nespresso machine with 3 capsules, you’d assume these are complimentary in a luxury hotel, I was surprised to see that they charged me £10 for these on check out, (I challenged it and they removed it, but why do it in the first place?). All the birds at breakfast jumping around tables and over the food as not great, it would be good to have an enclosed section where this is not the case if you don’t want to eat outside.

Lovely location, and from what I saw the best beach front by far. The hotel has good excursions and you can book them in at the front with your own taxi to take you and wait for as long as you need. The Three restaurants are brilliant, offering a wide range of food, and what’s a resort without a breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. A good range of foods in the buffets which changed daily. Staff always on hand for anything you need, and overall for me the best place to stay when In Mauritius.

Wonderful property with Nicely decorated rooms and common spaces. Service in the main dining room was very slow and unorganized. The Italian restaurant was very good. Bruno made every meal at Citronella Restaurant enjoyable.

The colonial style of the property has its own appeal if you like that sort of thing. It was quite different from other places. What I appreciated the most was the empowered staff determined and able to please. They put customers first, not the rules and regulations. The lovely walkable beach was also a special delight.

Another great stay at Sugar Beach. This is some of the best service I've received in Mauritius. I'm sure everyone is mandated to smile and say 'bonjour' to guests, but beneath that corporate exterior are genuinely friendly, funny, attentive people. I had real conversations and felt very well looked after. Standouts included Reshma on reception, the door guys, Bianca and the girl doing the fried eggs at breakfast, the juice trainee, but especially the pool bar staff. Fazle and the other servers were helpful and great with my kids. The nurse really helped me out with advice and calling the doctor when my daughter was sick. Needless to say, the hotel, food and facilities were great.

Beautiful hotel so so beach
Helpful personel, beautiful hotel and grounds. Nice beach but very disappointing that we couldn’t really swim and bathe in the ocean because there were only 50 cm of depth and so many pieces of coral that you risk cutting yourself if you don’t wear shoes. There were also a lot of seaweed. We ended up swimming in the pool and not at all in the sea. The pool are is nice and there is a nice bar. They play semi loud lounge music the whole time and the pool cleaning system is making disturbing noices all around the pool.if you want a relaxing quit pool there is quiet pool a bit further away from the main pool. There is some vet mice and active people organizing volleyball, pool basketballl, waterpolo etc everyday for free by the pool. Very fun and nice activities. For a small sum one can book the outdoor paddle court and the tennis courts. That was very fun too. The air conditioning sights are spread on a few sights outside the hotelroom buildings and they are very noicy, but you can’t hear them when you close the door to the room. It does take away a bit from the idyllic natural sounds of the tropics when you walk outside though. All in all we thought the hotel was vey nice and worth the visit but the beach was not adequate. Next time we would choose to stay on a hotel resort on the northern part of the island where the beaches are better.
