Great location Amazing Staff
The hostel is right in the middle of Dublin you could not wish for a better place to stay. The staff at the hostel are amazing through email, telephone and in person go out of there way to be helpful.

Great Location - Limited Breakfast
Only downside was the breakfast. It was just toast and jam!

Perfect location but not good for sleeping
Windows in rooms do not filter sounds from surrounding bar and street traffic. Tons of high school students visit during the summer and inundate the kitchen and halls. Great staff and located within walking distance of most sights. Beds a little noisy but comfortable. Bring ear plugs and a lock for the baggage lockers

Right in the heart of Temple Bar!!
Great location, but loud. Rooms are small, but it is a Hostel so didn't expect much. Great people at the front desk, and well worth it for the price. Would def do it again for a night or two, but not for longer than that.

Lovely place
The staff is available for 24h and they have very good security system, you can enter the hostel only with their card. The common area is also a good idea. It`s settled in the very centre, right next to the most famous Temple bar. Also, if you arrive before the check in starts, you can leave your baggage for free. That really means a lot!

Location, Location, Location!
the location of the the hostel was awesome, but the loudness goes with it. Unable to sleep due to the loud volume outside until the bars closed and people went home. Unfortunately, one of the nights included very rude people inside who were carrying on outside the door. The breakfast was coffee from a machine and toast with jam. Location was the overriding best feature.

Great staff, very nice. This hostel located in the heart of temple bar, nice if you like to visit pub and club, plus not far from most of the museum, touristique attraction. The problem is some facilities are rubbish, like the shower in my room and the windows that were not closing+the heating was off with 1degree outside, means that it was freezing cold in the room and I catch a cold :-(

Will be back again!
I've stayed in many hostels in Dublin, mostly for concerts and shopping trips. And I always feel like part of the fun is taken away by the poor quality hostels. While the barnacles hostel is expensive (I paid more than double for one night than I paid for a different hostel), i have to say it was worth it. The rooms were clean and well kept - there was a shower in our room which was very convenient. The only problem I had was that they put us in with 8 men who came stumbling in drunk at 4am, one of whom was a very loud snorer. I know there was plenty of other rooms available that night so I thought they might have moved us after taking this in to account. No such luck however. Staff were a little rude when we first arrived but nothing too serious. Will definitely be staying again.

Very helpful staff!
The two guys on the reception were great. The guy from Carlow whose name I forget was a great ambassador for all tourists!

2/10 Poor

good location, rooms are too small and overpriced
I really liked the service and help from the front desk staff. Very helpful, and they even booked my day trip to the cliffs, which was great. But we were a group of four, and so we stayed in a four-bed dorm. It ended up costing more than a good hotel would cost. And the room was unbearably small four 4 people....actually, the size of the room was completely unacceptable for the price we paid. There was not even enough space in the room for the 4 of us to be there at the same time. We were very very disappointed. It should be a 2 person room, at most.

Great location and great people but lousy room
Room smelled like BO the whole time; it was terrible. Pillow was like sleeping on a thick t-shirt, but to be expected. Breakfast was toast with jam and crappy tea and instant coffee (which I typically don't mind) that was horrific. The good thing was that I was too drunk to care at the end of the night so I slept ok. I'm sure not every room smelled that bad and I know I was just one of the unfortunate ones so I do recommend this place; however, beware!

The best for stay in the middle of Dublin
I slept in a 10 bedroom room and the comfort was good. there is a bathroom inside the room. under the bunk-bed there is a place to leave the bag and you can close with lock. there is a window can be open to refresh air and leave out the shoes. to go inside the hostel you use a magnetic card (till very late at night) and the same for your room. The breakfast is easy: toasT&jam, coffe&tea, orange&apple juice.when finish you wash your own dishes. simple & fast. kitchen and launge room are good place to stay to meet up and relax. i like this Bernacles hostel.
