Centro Histórico
Lagos' Centro Histórico captivates with cobblestone streets winding past 16th-century walls and golden churches adorned with azulejo tiles. The haunting former slave market stands as a sobering historical monument while ancient fortifications frame stunning harbour views. Traditional tavernas serve fresh seafood and local specialities between historic explorations and cultural discoveries. Highly walkable streets limit vehicle access, making this area perfect for leisurely exploration. Family-run restaurants and waterfront cafés offer authentic Portuguese flavours while boutique hotels in converted historic buildings provide charming accommodation with old-world character.

Porto de Mós
Porto de Mós wraps you in a golden sand dream framed by dramatic ochre cliffs that practically beg to be photographed. This peaceful pocket of the Algarve offers the perfect escape from Lagos' busier spots with scenic coastal trails winding along the Atlantic. The Ponta da Piedade lighthouse stands watch nearby, while the protected cove below creates ideal swimming conditions for beach lovers. The area serves up fresh seafood at beachfront restaurants where you can watch the sunset paint the cliffs. Modern holiday apartments and villas with sea views make up most accommodation, though public transport is limited so having a car is smart. Beach season brings the area to life, but even then, you'll find plenty of quiet spots along the coastal paths.

Ameijeira
Ameijeira gives you the best of both worlds in Lagos—calm residential streets just a short stroll from stunning beaches. Walk to Praia da Batata or Praia do Pinhão for golden sands and azure waters without the tourist crush. The area feels authentically Portuguese with its whitewashed homes and terracotta roofs, perfect for travellers who want local flavour. You'll need to head into Lagos centre for restaurants and shopping, just 15-20 minutes away on foot. Most accommodation here are upscale holiday rentals and private villas with pools, ideal for those seeking a peaceful home base with easy beach access.

São Sebastião
São Gonçalo de Lagos's São Sebastião neighbourhood offers attractions, including Monte da Casteleja Winery.
Praia Dona Ana
The Praia Dona Ana neighbourhood offers attractions, such as Dona Ana Beach and Batata Beach.

Learn more about Lagos
Beneath limestone cliffs, this Algarve gem invites exploration of its historic old town where narrow cobblestone streets wind between whitewashed buildings adorned with blue tiles. Climb to the clifftop castle for Atlantic panoramas that explain why explorers once set sail from these shores. Praia do Camilo and Dona Ana Beach offer perfect swimming coves framed by golden rock formations. Don't miss Ponta da Piedade, where boat tours navigate through sea arches and grottoes sculpted by centuries of waves. Summer brings vibrant nightlife to the marina area, while seafood restaurants serve the day's catch year-round. Visit the municipal market for local flavours, then join locals for sunset drinks overlooking the harbour where Henry the Navigator once planned his voyages.

"The breakfast was excellent!"
Aqualuz Lagos by The Editory
"We really enjoyed our stay at Aqualuz, especially because of its excellent location. If you enjoy walking, this hotel is a great choice. We easily walked to the Marina, Old Town, and all the beaches, from Meia Praia to Praia Dona Ana, to Praia do Canavial, and everything in between. It was wonderful being able to explore so much of Lagos on foot. The hotel pool was a refreshing bonus after a long day in the sun and a great way to relax and reenergize before heading out for dinner. Breakfast was amazing and always well stocked, with several options to start the day. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious enough, with a tv room, bathroom, and a bedroom. There is also a mini fridge and safe. It looks like all rooms have a pool facing view. Our room was cleaned daily around 3 p.m. Fresh towels were always provided which was appreciated. A couple of small things to note: the bathroom amenities were a bit lacking. The shower had one bottle of combined hair and body wash. There was one small guest hand soap at the sink (which was never replaced), with a disposable shower cap and small vanity kit. There is a small laundry room you can use for a fee. If it is busy, there is another one in the Spar convenience store just steps away. Overall, I definitely recommend Aqualuz and would happily stay here again. The location, breakfast, pool, and comfortable rooms made it a great choice for us, an older coupler who like to walk everywhere."

Carvi Beach Hotel
"Unbeatable location — right next to one of Lagos's best beaches, a bus stop on the corner, and steps from the boardwalk to Ponta da Piedade. City center is a 20-min walk (minor slopes, nothing like Lisbon/Porto). Check-in was excellent, room was clean but with a slight musty smell. The hotel shows its age, but essentials were there and more: balcony, safe, small fridge, and a water bottle you can refill from the tap and chill. No facial tissues though — had to use toilet paper. AC unit is dated and noisy on colder settings; had to set it to 17°C for a decent temp, feels near end of life. Beds were comfortable, better than expected. Breakfast was perfect — as vegans, we found both peanut butter and soy/almond milk at the buffet, plus a nice terrace view. A toilet issue was fixed within the hour, faster than I'd expect from an Airbnb. That's why I prefer real hotels. The one time I needed info on Sagres/Ponta da Piedade excursions, the younger front desk staff gave confusing answers — but other staff I saw elsewhere were thorough and helpful, so likely just bad timing. Being near a beach, it was noisy two nights from late-night partiers — loud talking, door slamming. Suggestion: redo the bathroom silicone/caulking for a fresher finish. Overall: unbeatable location, dated but functional room, great breakfast and service — worth it despite the quirks."
The Editory Residence Lagos
"Great property and we really enjoyed the beautiful sunsets from our sea view balcony! Would definitely recommend!"
