Luxor's East Bank area puts ancient wonders right at your doorstep. The towering columns of Karnak Temple stretch skyward while hieroglyphs dance across weathered walls in golden sunlight. Luxor Temple glows amber at dusk, with its obelisks piercing the desert sky. Between temple visits, lose yourself in bustling souks filled with papyrus, alabaster sculptures, and colourful textiles. Traditional Egyptian eateries serve affordable koshari and grilled meats, while Nile-view restaurants offer more upscale dining. Choose from charming guesthouses or mid-range hotels, many with rooftop terraces and temple views. Getting around is easy with horse-drawn carriages and tuk-tuks dominating the streets.
Step into ancient history on Luxor's West Bank where pharaohs' tombs hide in golden cliffs and archaeological wonders await. The Valley of the Kings reveals narrow corridors decorated with vibrant hieroglyphs, while Hatshepsut's terraced temple clings dramatically to the landscape. Traditional Nubian villages offer glimpses into unchanged Egyptian life alongside alabaster workshops where artisans practice centuries-old crafts. Simple local eateries serve traditional fare like ful medames and koshari at modest prices. Most visitors stay in family-run guesthouses with basic amenities and personal service. Getting around requires taxis or bicycle rentals, with regular ferry connections to East Bank making exploration between ancient sites straightforward.
The Nile River area in Luxor lets you walk through history while ancient temples rise majestically along the eastern bank. Luxor Temple's towering columns glow golden at sunset as traditional wooden feluccas drift by with billowing sails. Riverside restaurants serve grilled Nile perch with temple views while hotels range from budget to luxury with rooftop terraces. Horse-drawn carriages clip-clop along the waterfront promenade, and taxis provide easy access to monuments. The morning hours offer peaceful walks before the desert heat takes hold.
El Gezira offers a slice of authentic Egyptian village life away from Luxor's tourist bustle. This peaceful Nile island area welcomes visitors with colourful mud-brick homes, small family farms, and scenic waterfront paths. Traditional felucca boats ferry people across the river while locals fish and children play along the banks. The island's charm lies in its unhurried pace and cultural immersion. Travellers can enjoy home-style Egyptian meals at family-run establishments serving fresh Nile fish and traditional dishes. Accommodation is primarily budget-friendly homestays where shared meals and cultural exchange are common. The area is best explored on foot along narrow unpaved lanes that wind between palm trees and agricultural plots.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. The setting was like an oriental palace in a dream-like mirage but very real, with stunning rooms, glorious food and the most wonderful staff, not to mention the farm with the animals and the workshops. Not just a hotel but a destination, an oasis!

A great choice of hotel. Beautifully presented and in a wonderful spot on the bank of the Nile. Very peaceful and easy to get into town. Professional and friendly staff who seem to genuinely like their jobs, which reflects in a better quality of service. good wifi. Excellent/diverse choice at breakfast buffet. Restaurant and bar pricey though. Yet this is surely the best place to stay in Luxor. We will return.

The view over the Nile was gorgeous, but I was concerned about the Animals and their care. I know they are not all yours, but please ensure they are cared for the best possible.

We had a wonderful overnight stay at the hotel. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had a beautiful view watching the hot air balloons and we sat in the roof area which is where we also had breakfast, having a quiet drink in the evening. We didn’t use the pool due to time but it was spotless clean and well maintained. The hotel manager and his staff were very friendly, professional and made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend.

Howard Carter Hotel - what a find. Read all reviews and wasn't disappointed. From the very outset, we had a small issue with our room and was moved the next day into another room with no hesitation. We didn't like to complain as everyone at the hotel was so lovely and accommodating. Mr Said the owner who would always come around at meal times to make sure everything was to our liking. We have just returned home after a fabulous stay at the Steigenberger Nile Palace and I cannot praise this hotel highly enough. It has recently undergone a renovation which has given the Steigenberger a real 5* rating. The rooms are great and the staff make any stay a fantastic experience. Too many names to mention them all but special thanks to Ahmed, Ashraf, Osama, Aly, Hasan and last but not least Amina, who has made sure that next years trip will be better than ever. A fortnight at any hotel can take its toll. By Day 10, you're missing coffee the way you make it yourself and would love a soft poached egg. There are though plenty of options provided by the breakfast buffet and the coffee is bearable and there's plenty to fill up on to start a Luxor day. Energy is needed in Luxor. Energy, understanding and a sense of humour so a good breakfast is a bonus. You get a good breakfast at the Sonesta and great service. The rooms are comfortable with many having...

I loved the herbs straight from the garden on your food, ie rocket, and the felafel was the equal best I have ever had in Egypt (I am a bit of a connniseur of felafel).
The roof is amazing and the views are incredible.

What an amazing hotel! We had one of the best weeks we have ever had at The Jolie Ville.

We would love to include names of staff members for extra praise - but it would be unfair because each and all of them are wonderful and would do everything to make their guests feel like royalty - and at the same time like friends. Tourism in magic, beautiful Luxor has fallen on hard times and this idyllic resort by the Nile is much too empty but everything from the blooming oriental garden to the two swimming pools (one with Nile view) and the terrace with its thousand and one night atmosphere...

This is a family owned hotel on the west bank of the Nile. Just FYI - the Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens, as well as some other temples and tombs you'll want to see, are on the west bank. 4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Luxor
Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Luxor is from July to September, when hotel prices may drop significantly. For a truly enriching experience of the city’s remarkable historical and cultural offerings, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended. This timeframe allows ample opportunity to explore iconic landmarks such as ancient temples, museums, and enjoy activities like relaxing river cruises, horseback riding, and budget-friendly sightseeing tours. With lower prices during these months, it’s a great value for money for those looking to immerse themselves in Luxor's rich heritage without breaking the bank.
Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: When booking hotels in Luxor on Hotels.com, you may discover discounted rates through the Dealsopens in new window section. If you're planning a spontaneous trip, you could find attractive offers in the Last-Minute Deals area, where special reductions might be available close to your travel date. Additionally, using the Smart Shopping feature via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, helping you stay informed about potential price drops or room availability, so you’re more likely to book a luxury hotel deal in Luxor at a competitive rate.
Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to various factors, including the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so having some flexibility with your travel dates might assist you in finding a more economical stay in a hotel in Luxor. For those in search of distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised experience and occasionally offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you discover a more favourable rate.
Consider your location: Hotels located near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Luxor's excellent public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel situated a bit further out that remains well linked. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
