This is the original character and magic that Disney tries (and fails) to capture and put into cages in theme parks.
Lots of London hotels in older buildings have character, which can include windows in the basement, or beds you must climb over to reach the bathroom.
But though building is old, rooms are Hilton-clean and new, yet haven't had the soul sucked out of them.
Breakfast was good, and nice to eat in the quiet pub.
As a caution, corridors and elevator are tiny and stairs are steep. The whole place is just odd, in a good way. Location is also good especially if you need something towards the business end, Liverpool Street station, or Tower of London, but not impossibly far from West End shows.
I'd stay again for sure - though I'm guessing most times it would be out of my price range.
