We stayed at Hotel Magdalena for 5 nights. Our stay was enjoyable overall but not as perfect as I would have hoped, given the price point.
The Good:
- Excellent location for visitors from out of town. Lots of restaurants, ice cream, coffee shops steps away. There is lots of shopping nearby but it's largely upscale. If you are a good walker, you can easily cross the South Congress bridge and explore downtown Austin.
- The hotel is absolutely beautiful, inside and out. The grounds are landscaped and designed very well, and the pool was an excellent amenity.
The Bad:
- Upon checking in, I was notified of a hold on my card that was alarming to the least. I initially paid for 2 nights via Expedia and then later changed my reservation to stay 3 more nights, with the balance to be paid at the end of the stay. The amount authorized on my card was nearly 3X the balance owed, even including amenity fees and incidentals. They were very nice and fixed the "mistake" once asked, but it left me uneasy knowing that they could make such a serious error and not every guest would necessarily catch it.
- The sliding bathroom door did not lock and would therefore slide open on its own occasionally. Not great for if you have guests over to your room.
