These are excerpts from the email I sent General "Manager" Leeroy Russell... He did not respond to email or fax.
• Black mold was observed in the closet.
• Baby ants were observed in the room. While not immediately alarming, Pierre (their absolute BEST employee) mentioned that maintenance is not allowed in rooms unless the guest is present. This policy seems impractical, as it would delay urgent maintenance requests (e.g., a malfunctioning AC on a hot day).
• This morning, I was shocked to find several cockroaches inside my closet when I removed my (thankfully sealed) suitcase. Two attached themselves to the outside of my suitcase and ended up on the unused bed. While I attempted to catch and kill them, they were too quick.
The following has already happened or is happeninig now as a result of the non-response.
• File a complaint with Dallas County Health & Human Services regarding the presence of cockroaches, ants, and black mold.
• Submit a formal complaint to Choice Hotels corporate.
• Report the issues to Hotels.com.
• Initiate chargebacks for the charges billed through Hotels.com, which will result in additional costs for your hotel.
• Publicly document my experience on social media platforms.
• Contact local news media regarding the conditions observed.
• Pursue additional legal actions as warranted.
Conclusion: DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. I do not THINK this is part of Corporate, rather a franchise, but it is in bad shape.
