2/10 Buruk
9 Apr 2025
Located about 1.5 miles away from the expat-ified town of San Marcos. A Tuk Tuk ride will cost you $11.50 each way (80Q).
Accommodation is a secluded yurt-style tent on a deck with a camp sink and composting toilet. The communal shower is 100 yards away, not in the tent as advertised on Expedia.
The 200-step climb up the volcano is a tough haul for luggage. Their porter assists.
Garbage littered the property within 75 ft of our tent.
Very noisy being on the main road and with construction nearby.
Views of the lake were obstructed by trees.
Not a 1-minute walk off the lake as described, but rather 15 minutes down the steep, carved steps and then guessing which unmarked gate on the other side of the road belongs to the hotel.
There are 4 screened-in windows in the tent but only 2 (on the same side) are allowed to open. Management claimed the other 2 could not be opened because that’s how the tent is made. In reality, they simply failed to attach the rigging, so there was no cross breeze, or fan for that matter, to circulate air in the tent.
Security is a locking wood door… attached to a tent held to steel posts by sleeves and velcro. There's no room safe and the lockable drawers in the bed frame are easily accessible simply by lifting the mattress.
On the positive side, the kitchen was fantastic, the sheets soft, the furniture cute and comfortable, and there’s Wi-Fi & electricity in the tent.
For us it was a disillusioning and overpriced glamping experience.
