8/10 Very good

Mostly good! Good great.
Food was really gorgeous. We had breakfast, dinner and cream tea there. All excellent. Room was very comfortable but small. Hotel garden lovely. Drinks great. Service was haphazard: often had to go inside to seek or give a food order, or request cutlery once food had come etc, as hard to flag someone down once we’d been seated/served. Some staff were welcoming, some were brusk. Hotel in beautiful town and was a lovely place. Overall, would go again.

4/10 Fair

A disappointment!
Senior staff member was excellent, everything you would expect. The room was spacious but the shower door did not close, the safe battery was low and flies in the room when we arrived. There was a damp patch in the carpet at the entrance to the bathroom. The quilt on the bed was heavy for the time of year. The breakfast staff were not attentive, the food average. For the cost we paid, I would have expected better. This was not value for money.

This was an excellent small hotel that we would recommend to anyone. We wished we had more time to stay longer and do some local walks of the area. Food for our supper was excellent and the eggs benedict were perfectly prepared with a buttery sauce. The room was very spacious and well done and the full bathtub and separate shower was excellent too.

Perfect hotel in the Cotswolds
Beautiful, well-appointed, building in a beautiful setting. Many cozy nooks and charming places to relax in. Friendly and competent staff. And the restaurant is a delight - spacious, comfortable, and the chef is superb.

6/10 Good

A really great stay spoiled
First of all, the hotel is really quirky, luxurious and would be recommended if it didn't have unacceptable elements that would put me off from going again. The food was, despite the reviews, only just above average, but the service was poor. Missing a side order that came at the end of the meal, underdone meat, more like Fawlty Towers than a high price luxury restaurant. We were so disappointed, we went elsewhere on the Saturday night. The main reason for my poor scoring was the fact they oversold everything throughout the whole weekend. From birthday parties, wedding parties, baby parties, the whole hotel was sold out. We paid close to £2,000 for a family weekend, but couldn't get a seat in either lounge, because they were reserved for functions. Normally, hotels reserve somewhere for guests to go after dinner, but not the Painswick. The lounges were great, but if you have sold them at the discomfort of your paying guests, that strikes me of a bad business decision. Add to this,

Amazing hotel with fabulous amenities. They really think about every little detail to make your experience memorable. The view from the room is spectacular and the village is like an image from a chocolate box.
