8/10 Very good

It’s an old building with charm and character. Well situated to the Octagon and other city tourist sites. Parking on the street. Rooms and beds are small but adequate. Appeared to have a well patronised restaurant. Lovely aromas greeted you at the door. The doors and lift shut earlier than advised.

Seriously in need of renovation. Parts of the "room", its the size of a jail cell (no exageration) are held together with cellotape. The shower is so tiny my shoulders touch both sides, and when I asked for a glass of ice water be sent up or a menu, I was told to come down the bar and get it! No concept of service. Three good points, the pulled beef burger was high quality and delish, the bar and reception staff very nice (2 young ladies) and a good central location.

Room was good apart from the toilet water running all night. The other rooms basin had so many breaks in it it was not safe at all. One website had Free parking, another had parking for $20. When booking the hotel we were told we couldn’t reserve a park yet when we arrived we were told others had reserved carparks and that none were available. Miraculously then we were found one and charged $25 which contradicts other websites. Definitely not the greatest service.

Location!
We spent 3 nights staying at the Law Courts Hotel late February. Excellent location in Dunedin - walking distance to almost everything. Staff were very helpful and everything was easy. Parking in private car park, and a wonderful Dining Room. Thank ytou!

Position is excellent. Excellent information of how to get into the hotel when I had got in after a late flight but no information in the room about WiFi number. Bathroom seriously needs updating. The bath had areas of where coating had come off and a brown stain around it. Glass around the shower had mould. Toilet needed repetitive flushings.

6/10 Good

This hotel had to be the most disappointing of all our stays in New Zealand. When we booked it and viewed the photos we were pleased with what we had booked especially being part of a pub and staying over New Year. The room was very basic, a bit depressing, no shampoo or shower soap, just a bar of soap and a flannel, so for the price we paid, was disappointing. The pub closed at 8 oclock each night and didn't even make an exception for New year's eve. There was a small casino, betting machines in the bar and a restaurant, so I suppose they didn't need to open the bar late. We had a full breakfast one morning which wasn't cheap and included salad. Who put's salad on a fry up!! Whilst it was central and a short walk from other restaurants, bars and shops, we regretted booking it.

Rooms a bit tired and require updating. Bit noisy as was on main street side. Location is good. Staff welcoming.

This property definitely feels tired and due for renovation. The soundproofing between rooms and floors isn’t great, and my bathroom had rot in the woodwork around the shower, that looked to have gone under the lino. But the room was big and the bed was comfortable, and the location is excellent - it just needs some time and money spent on it.

2/10 Poor

Do not stay here. Terrible. Rooms tiny no room for suitcases and people together. Shower was stainless steel made you feel like you are in the morgue. Bathroom full of mould. Owners are Chinese and have not put a cent into renovating this place to make it nice. The only good thing is the location. Would not put anyone in here.

This hotel is looking very tired, I hope that someone goes around with white paint and a paintbrush before the FIFA Womens World Cup to freshen it up or there will be unhappy guests. How about also repricing breakfast to include Tea/coffee?

2/10 Poor

The room itself was clean and street noise was fine, it was noisey guests coming and going ALL night a noisey guests in room next door laughing and partying loudly between 2-4am. It truly wrecked my nights sleep and next day as I was so shattered. Would not stay again.

Kind of gross.
Bar/restaurant on first floor - seems fine, we did not try. Room has definitely seen better days! The carpet is old and dingy and the windows don't lock. There is no way to control room temperature outside of opening a window onto a scary fire escape. We had a giant spider in our bed. Did not take shoes off.

Law courts hotel
The hotel has seen better days. Our room was basic and needed a new basin, a little more shelf space, and an exhorst fan to get rid of steam. There wasnt any fan to move the air around and if you opened the window it was extremely noisy. Every time we wanted something to eat, the sign said kitchen closed. Breakfast was supposed to be open from 8am-10am everyday, yet we came down to get it at 8.30, 8.45 & 9am on all 3 occasions the dining room was i darkness with sign closed yet the office person said they were open everyday at the times quoted.had the same problem with dinner open 5pm - 8pm but closed at 5.15 & at 7.10pm on the days we tried.not a great hotel.
