10 Things to Do Off the Beaten Track in Ibiza

Isla de Espalmador is a small, uninhabited island just off the southern shore of mainland Ibiza where you enjoy the pure nature of the area. You'll find sugary, white-sand beaches that are set along clear-blue waters that are as calm as they are picturesque.

No buildings exist on the island, and there's no bridge to the mainland. To get there, you'll need to take a ferry from La Savina or hire a private boat. You'll find it all north of Formentera and south of Ibiza Town.

Punta Galera is a lovely coastal spot where you can sit on massive, flat stone formations on a cliffside to enjoy a relaxing reprieve from the town's hustle and bustle. The flat rocks jut out from the cliffs like shelves over the waters below, offering scenic views of the entire bay.

It's common for locals to venture out onto the rocks to relax or do a bit of yoga. The beach below is also a fun enough experience with opportunities for swimming and snorkelling. You'll find it all north of Sant Antoni de Portmany.

Ses Salines National Park is a protected natural area where you can see marine and coastal ecosystems interacting with each other in a wetland. Historically, the area was used for salt production, which created the unique merging of ecosystems.

When you visit, you'll find an abundance of wildlife, especially birds. That means there are plenty of opportunities for birdwatching, but you'll find 220 different species of marine sea life here as well. It's all located near the southernmost point of Ibiza's mainland by Sant Francesc de s'Estany.

Es Cavallet Beach is a relatively secluded beach where you'll find rolling waves and white sands that offer fun in the sun and clear views of surrounding towns and islands. There are a few restaurants and bars near the beach, but it's fairly far from the beaches more frequented by travellers.

To get to this beach, you'll need to travel about 6 miles out of Ibiza Town, and you can do so by car, bike, scooter or bus. The salt flats on the way are among the most scenic views on the island, so don't miss out. The beach itself is on Ibiza's southern shore near the southernmost tip.

Las Dalias is a hippy market in Sant Carles where you'll find hundreds of stalls alongside a night market popular with the locals. The items on offer can vary quite a bit, but you're sure to find plenty of original artwork and handicrafts among the vendors here.

The night market at Las Dalias is particularly interesting, as it hosts hundreds of stalls that are exclusive to the nighttime market. To get a spot at the night market, a certain standard of quality and originality has to be met, so you know you'll be finding the good stuff. It's all available in Sant Carles on the east side of the island.

San Mateu d'Albarca is a rural village far from the major towns where you'll find picturesque countryside and an abundance of vineyards you can tour. This small town has a wholeheartedly different atmosphere than places like San Antonio and Ibiza Town, offering serene tranquillity among its handful of buildings.

When you visit, you'll be able to explore quite a few hiking and cycling trails that show off the spectacular natural features. You can also check out the local vineyards, many of which offer tours and tastings. You'll find this town north of Eivissa, slightly inland from Ibiza's northern coast.

Forada Market is an often-overlooked market that offers a wide range of local and ecological products, including artwork, handicrafts and produce. Don't forget to try some of the homemade pastries available here if you're looking for a delectable sweet treat.

One of the most popular items here is hierbas, which is a herb liqueur made on the island. Aside from the available items, you'll often be treated with live music as well. You can see it all for yourself on the east side of Sant Antoni de Portmany.

Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort is home to unusual rock formations that lead to a labyrinth of caves with a magical atmosphere that's as eerie as it is alluring. The trail through the area can be quite steep at some points, but once you reach its end, you'll find Atlantis. Not the city, mind you, but the remnants of a quarry of the same name from which much of the material for Ibiza Town was sourced.

Within the area, you'll find flat rocks and sea pools that add some variety to the natural offerings. Additionally, several paintings are in the caves. Some are recent graffiti, while others are much more historical. It's all found on Ibiza's western coast.

Aguas Blancas Beach is an isolated beach at the foot of some cliffs with untouched surroundings, golden sands and crystal-clear waters. While there are some rocks dotted around the seabed, it's generally safe to relax in the water as you see fit.

Keep in mind that the only way to get to this beach is by car. It's so isolated from the major communities of Ibiza that you'll spend all day walking if you try to visit on foot. Because of this isolation, the beach isn't very crowded even in the middle of summer. You'll find it near the island's easternmost point.
