The host and his family were incredibly friendly and despite terrible Italian from us and only a little English from him we really enjoyed his company. His daughter speaks excellent English and they were all extremely helpful in helping us to plan our trip in the surrounding area.
The accommodation itself is the old family farmhouse and the bar and restaurant area is beautiful. The gardens are lovely and filled with herbs and if we had had more time we would have taken up the host’s offer of looking at the produce grown on the farm. Our mountain view room meant we were able to see the eruption of etna light up the night’s sky, something which, as it was hidden by clouds when we arrived, the waiter kindly told us about during our meal so we would not miss it.
Breakfast was freshly baked bread with a excellent range of local jams, marmalade and honey, fresh ricotta, fresh fruit from the farm and a variety of yogurts. The restaurant is clearly very popular with locals and serves excellent pizza, pasta and meat with good wine at a very good price. The restaurant was rented out for a first communion on an afternoon when we were there, adding to the lovely feeling that we were staying somewhere which is an important part of the local community. Despite many children playing nearby we were able to relax by the pool in peaceful surroundings as this area was kept separate for guests.
All in all, we loved our stay and would love to return at some point in the future!
