I believe in being honest in reviews of places we’ve stayed. So that others — presumably mostly non-Costa Ricans — will know what to expect. At the same time, I want to be fair to the renters, because of challenges they face here that they wouldn’t in the U.S.
Flying into San Jose airport, we made this our one “throw-away” stay-over before heading to our ultimate destinations far beyond the city. Which is to say we sorta knew what we were getting into. No illusions. This is definitely in-town San Jose, with all the good/bad that promises. Most of which we were up for.
If you’re booking here, I’ll first say, MAKE SURE you aren’t assigned a room on the ground floor! That’s what we got, randomly assigned, and was basically like a prison cell. No windows whatsoever. Which even so, we might’ve endured without complaint. Except the shower was unspeakably bad, with shower head sending streams of water anywhere but on your body. The biggest OWN GOAL in hotel-keeping!
Plus, no surprise, there was just this musty smell that no amount of dehumidification could overcome (despite small dehumidifier working round the clock here).
One saving grace is they do have gated parking, though you have to go most of the way around the block to get to it. But is sufficient (ie, necessary), I’ll say.
The best thing the property owners do is list on Expedia, which insures a high volume of American/European visitors, who we quickly learned to team up with.
