When we went to check in at the Elounda Olive Gardens, we were met with a notice on the door to ring their sister hotel, Elounda Residence. We were then informed that they had shut the apartments for the winter and we were now staying in the Elounda Residence. Although a better hotel, it was miles from the village and we had deliberately not chosen that hotel because of the location. It was on a very steep hill, with amazing views, but our room was the furthest away from the reception and pool areas, even higher up the hill. We are very sprightly 70 year olds, luckily, as anyone with walking difficulties would have struggled. We were on a self catering basis but most of the hotel was all inclusive, so it was a pain to have to get down to the village for breakfast and again for the evening meal. There was a shuttle service, but the last bus went at 5 pm.
Unless you want an all inclusive hotel, this one is not for you!
