I wasn’t informed that there would be no staff at the front desk at night when I checked in. When I got back to the hotel and tried to shower, water sprayed out of the showerhead like a fountain, and there was no hot water. There was no proper shower door, just a thin partition, so water started spilling onto the bathroom floor and into the room. I tried to get help, but there was no one around. I couldn’t find any emergency contact info, so I ended up reaching out to Hotels.com. Even they couldn’t contact the hotel and told me to wait. I was coming down with a cold and really needed a hot shower, but I had no choice but to sleep without one.
The next morning, I told a staff member in the dining area, and she said the maintenance person wouldn’t arrive until 9 a.m. There wasn’t even an apology for the inconvenience. She just seemed indifferent and said she couldn’t help me because she had to prepare breakfast. Since I was only staying in Heidelberg for a day, I couldn’t afford to waste time waiting for repairs, so I left without showering. The staff I spoke to in the morning didn’t even ask if I was okay.
After checking out, I requested a partial refund through Hotels.com, but the hotel refused, saying hot water was available. While the sink had hot water, the shower definitely didn’t when I tried to use it. It’s probably an issue with the old building’s water system, but there’s no way for me to prove it. If I could’ve showered, why would I have walked around looking dirty?
